My hike to Table Mountain was led by Matt. He was a wonderful guide and extremely knowledgeable. He made the experience all the more special by sharing facts about the animals and botany found along the trail. I am glad I booked a guide for this hike as it would have been difficult to complete on my own. I am a bit intimidated by heights and Matt was extremely understanding and helpful during the more challenging parts of the hike. Riaan assisted me in booking the tour. He was extremely responsive and recommended the tour route he felt was best based on my interests and level of activity. Highly recommend booking a guided hike with these great guys!
Hendre was the best guide. For 4 hours she was so enthusiastic about the hike, the surroundings and life in general. The first 15min is your ‘trial’ and as long as she doesn’t give you ‘the chat’ the trek up is safe but strenuous. She knew exactly when to stop for a breather. Unfortunately due to wind direction and humidity any views of Cape Town were non existent but that’s nature! Definitely recommend this hike and this company
I did the Kasteelspoort route along the 12 Apostles to table mountain summit. I was travelling on my own but did the hike in a group of 6, plus our guide Mike. The hike had amazing and interesting scenery, including the diving board which was a great photo opportunity. Mike was an excellent guide really friendly, very knowledgeable on the flowers and it was nice talking to him about life in South Africa. The group was put together based on our self-indicated fitness levels, and it worked out well as we were all at a similar pace. Communication beforehand was great and picked up from hotel. Would really recommend, and I'm planning on doing another route with them when I'm next in Cape Town.
My husband and I hiked up Table Mountain with Riaan and three others via Porcupine Ravine. After an early start and glorious emerging of sunlight behind Lion's Peak, we had a great combination of very enjoyable hiking, fun scrambling and amazing views with no one else around - amazing when you're in the heart of a big city. We didn't cross paths with more than just a few hikers until we reached the top. We were very lucky with the weather - glorious blue skies, with a few whispy clouds moving in and out again when we were already very high - and wildlife: we saw two black eagles! Riaan is a great guide - fun and knowledgeable and with good insight into people and groups (which you definitely need to have in this job). He made it a fun and memorable experience which I would recommend to anyone. We have decent hiking experience but would not have been able to do this hike without a guide - it is definitely a less travelled path and would have been difficult to find, which made it one of the other great benefits of going with Riaan. I was a little bit worried about keeping up, but didn't have to - the hike was very well paced. We started at 6am and were up top by around 12.30pm. Highly recommend doing this - I would certainly do another if I go back!
We had a splendid hike up Table Mountain via the Kasteelspoort route, aka the 12 Apostles route. This route offers stunning views of the bay and the mountain, and of course there's the highly photogenic point at the diving board. It should be doable for anyone that is not a complete couch potato and yet the trail is never boring! Making our way to the top of Table Mountain was an absolute highlight of our time in Cape Town, so it ought to be very high on your list! Hiking with guide Mike was great. He clearly loves the area and the sport and taught us a lot about indigenous plants and animals, and about the country in general. We were glad to have a guide with us, since the trails are not that well marked, so it could be challenging to figure out on your own (and hiking with a small group of other visitors is of course also fun). The booking process was very smooth, with very clear information from behalf of the guides, and everything was very well organized. Apparently, a guided hike for each route is done approximately twice a week (depending on interest), so if you inquire well in advance like we did (a month prior to our trip), you'll likely have a pick of your preferred date. If you book last minute, you'll probably have to settle with a date that has been requested by other visitors who booked earlier, so keep it in mind when preparing your trip schedule.
