Fantastic guide in Steph. So kind and knowledgeable. We feel like we made a lifelong friend. The hike is challenging for a short person like me, (5’4”) due to the endless high steps. I was in boots, but you could do the hike in grippy shoes just as well. It took about 3.5 hours and was spectacular. It is not to be missed if you’re a hiker and in decent shape. The views are amazing!
We did the Kastreelspoort trail with Mike and had an amazing time. Mike was a superb guide, very good at outlining the route and setting our expectations. We are both in our 60s and felt a little intimidated by the size of the mountain but it’s totally doable if you have a reasonable leave of fitness. Such a beautiful hike! I highly recommend organising a hike with this company. My correspondence with Riaan while organising the hike was easy and he was very responsive. Our guide Mike was excellent, in addition to feeling very safe with him he was very knowledgeable about vegetation etc on the mountain which made the hike very interesting.
Great communication from initial enquiry email. We would have just done main route to top but on reply Riaan asked our fitness levels and recommended a longer, more scenic hike (Kasteelsport). We are so glad we opted for that hike. Average time stated as 4-4.5hrs but took us just under 3 hours. Modest hike but initial hour was large steps most of the way, climbing 700m (of the total 1,000m), so uphill continuously. Great for us but just to note for others. The next 2 hours is a more gradual easy climb. Price was definitely reasonable, especially compared to a couple of others we checked. Also, offered pick-up / drop-off from hotel in Cape Town. Steph – our guide, was lovely and chatty and knowledgeable. If we go back to Cape Town we would definitely use Hike Table Mountain again.
I had a great time and highly recommend the tour My guide was Mike and ended up asking for him for another tour as well. He was very knowledgeable and overall a really friendly guy. Hands down best tour of my trip and glad l did it
We hiked Kasteelspoort with Steph and Skeleton Gorge with Mike. Two great trails, two brilliant, patient and wonderfully relaxed guides. We have a strong interest in botany so we booked private hikes and they were really keen to satisfy our goals of seeing the stunning orchids in bloom. Everything impressed us about Hike Table Mountain. The detail and quality of their information online was second to none and from the first contact with Riaan and the efficiency with which he put our 2 days together we knew that we would be in good hands. Neither trail is a ‘walk in the park’ but nor did we find them overly tough (we love walking, late 40s/early 50s). No one tried to hurry us along. Kasteelspoort was the slightly easier of the two, and more panoramic while Skeleton Gorge started in stunning Kirstenbosch, with a stronger focus on the native forest and plants of the National Park. Being led by Steph and Mike meant we were able to completely relax and enjoy the experience without worrying about losing our way. Very early starts yes but to be out at dawn on both days only added to the magic. We met very few people along the way compared with at the cable car station. Indeed we feel very lucky to have experienced a very different side of a visit to Table Mountain, much more rewarding than just going up and down in the cable car.
