The world belongs to those who get up early. Cape Town is kept alive by the powerful magic of Table Mountain. To be one of the few to witness the sunrise on Table Mountain is always special. You can’t beat watching the sunrise from the top of the world and Table Mountain is the closest you’ll get in Cape Town. We will hike up Table Mountain with head lamps to experience the thrill of being the few if not the only one hiking Table Mountain this early at dawn. Watch the light catch the Cape Town Stadium, while the rest of the city comes alive. When you’re so high up, even overcast days don’t matter, because you will be above the clouds.Stop off to grab some coffee at to top cable car station and back at your hotel still in time to catch breakfast!

Itinerary

One of the most popular hikes on our beloved Table Mountain (platte klip in Afrikaans), name's after a large flat rock found on the route. The ‘stairway to heaven’ is the go-to route up Table Mountain for locals alike, although with 650 meter of elevation gained in less than 3 km it is no easy feat!

Hike Table Mountain via Platteklip Gorge has the shortest access to the summit of Table Mountain. The stream down Platteklip gorge provide a source of drinking water in winter and in the old day for the settlement as well as for the ships sailing around the Cape. Up-relentlessly up! The hike starts under the cable car and ascent to the contour path. It’s the most direct route to the top and the most popular. Once in the gorge the path zig-zags all the way up. As you gain height, the gorge gets narrower. The final 150m is spectacular with huge rock walls on either side, narrowing to 4m. It is not to be trifled with: the going can be tough. Way down by cable car.

My second trip to CapeTown and I wanted to hike up Table Mountain to celebrate commencement of my 60s. 2 friends joined me. It was something truly awesome to climb above the clouds. Because it had been raining, we encountered a few waterfalls. The route chosen, at the suggestion of our guide, Patrick, was very scenic. A friend had faced difficulty during the hike, and about halfway, decided not to continue. Patrick was kind enough to escort her down to safety, and reclimbed to meet the remaining parties as we continued our way up. We all had a really wonderful experience, largely thanks to Patrick, who took very good care. Oh and I must also mention Patrick's deep knowledge of the flowers found on the mountain, and the geology of the mountain.

My wife and I had a fantastic hike up Table mountain guided by Patrick. It's an early start and is definitely not for the feint hearted, but it was a very rewarding experience and highly recommended. Patrick was extremely knowledgable about the mountain, the wildlife and the history. He also made us feel comfortable and safe on what is a challenging climb. If you are fit and eager to do something really special whilst in Cape Town, then this is for you. The amazing views at the top are even better when you feel you have earned them!

Esperienza bellissima.
