Local Cape Malay culture is represented at sites like the 1790s-built Auwal Mosque and the Bo-Kaap Museum, with exhibits about the achievements of Muslim immigrants. Nearby, simple restaurants serve curries, roti and other Cape Malay dishes. The Noon Gun cannon is fired daily at midday from Signal Hill.

Hillside De Waterkant is a chic enclave centered on Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village, a small, upscale mall with fashion boutiques, commercial art galleries and global eateries. Leafy streets nearby are lined with brightly colored cottages housing craft coffee bars, stylish gift shops and guesthouses. A cluster of gay and lesbian cocktail bars and dance clubs gives the neighborhood its late-night, LGBT-friendly vibe.

V&A Waterfront is a busy retail, dining and entertainment district with gift and design stores, diverse museums, and a restaurant scene which covers burger joints to posh bistros. Family-friendly attractions include the towering Cape Wheel ride, the Two Oceans Aquarium and the ClockTower Playground, which centers on an 1882 redbrick tower. Boats to the Apartheid-era political prison on Robben Island depart nearby.

Green Point is a popular leisure district dominated by its namesake park, with lakes, jogging trails, a hedge maze and a biodiversity garden planted with indigenous flora.
