Zeitz MOCAA was founded with the vision of being the first major museum in Africa, and a leading museum in the world, dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.

From its inception, the aim was to become a place that draws people from around the world and to have the cultural, environmental and social relevance of a prestigious international art museum in an African context.

Moreover, the museum was founded around the desire to provide access to a core collection of art to the public; and to create an institution that advances the knowledge, appreciation and preservation of art, personal liberties, equality, freedom of speech, and democracy.

Stunning building thanks to thoughtful architecture when it was repurposed housing exhibitions of a range of contemporary artists so something for everyone. Very well laid out space.

It was a cool building but the art had no explanation or details so was a bit weird to say the least. Lots of mixed up genres and no real continuity throughout. Staff didn’t really direct you at all either.

What a waste of time and money. Building and architecture was great to see. I have been to many galleries around the world and this was not even impressive. Absolute rubbish.

Intense! Emotionally-moving! So beautiful. Emotions storm in with the triggering of your senses at each level of the exhibition. You get free entrance if it is your birthday month
