Overview

Zeitz MOCAA was founded with the vision of being the first major museum in Africa, and a leading museum in the world, dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.

From its inception, the aim was to become a place that draws people from around the world and to have the cultural, environmental and social relevance of a prestigious international art museum in an African context.

Moreover, the museum was founded around the desire to provide access to a core collection of art to the public; and to create an institution that advances the knowledge, appreciation and preservation of art, personal liberties, equality, freedom of speech, and democracy.

Visit: Zeitz MOCAA, South Arm Rd Silo District, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town Central 8001 South Africa

The grade 9 artwork in the basement was the highlight. Not worth the time or money for the rest of the floors. Distracted, careless and inaccessible videos & photographs searching for a meaning. Went in with high hopes of experiencing amazing contemporary South African Art and came away deflated. Great art gallery/store half a block to the north is vastly superior in 1/100th the space, by the way! Restorative after the MOCAA visit…

God this was awful, I'm not really into "art" but husband is, I found myself in strange giggles as I found the art on display toe curling. The building is impressive but to be totally honest I couldn't wait to escape and felt bad for the group of school kids who went in before us with a teacher as they would have to endure this drvel for a couple of hours.. I really don't know who this is aimed at..

Very interesting museum / gallery with unusual art. This is not a “typical” museum, definitely some modern pieces. On top of that, architecture was stunning.

The Zeitz MOCCA museum itself is totally amazing and worth a visit. The architecture is quite fascinating. However, do your research on what exhibits are being presented at the time of your planned visit. Unfortunately, we did not do so and landed up with a "protest" exhibition. We found it pretentious and boring. But that is a subjective opinion. I am sure others found it fascinating.

I really wanted to give this place a glowing review, but due to the lack of art actually on display, I couldn't. It's a beautiful building architecturally and the roof gives some great views however it is really missing lots of art l, when we visited 1 and half floors were having new art installed so nothing to see and completely blocked off, the top floor had the only exhibit that really resonated with us. This is, of course, subjective to personal tastes and time of visiting. Would I give it another go? Yes, providing all floors we're open to the public.
