Overview

I do postcards with my drawings and budget tours to top attractions and hidden gems of Transnistria. Transfer from Chishinau or start in Tiraspol. Honestly, I can’t make Maldives of my country, because it is not Maldives. But i can make an unforgettable journey through all contrasts of what it really is - beautiful panoramas and impressive soviet lost places, curious history and nowadays life in the country that doesn't exist, combining classic walk with forays for true explorers and adventurers.

Tour takes ~ 2,5 hours. It is not Stalinism, we are very volatile where to go and what to do, but default route covers must-see USSR era and modern bits of Tiraspol, plus my favorite nooks and crannies that I discovered doing my sketches. The trip won’t be exhausting, not boring at all, we will have time to talk about all peculiarities of past and present of Transnistria, real name is Pridnestrovie ☭
You won’t be meeting a guide, you will be meeting a friend!

There is enough to see for a two day tour so you can imagine - no matter how much I will tell and no matter how fast I speak - it will be just top of an iceberg. But we will dive as deep as possible. Take a look behind the iron curtain, discover Pridnestrovie- the most epic remnant among USSR debris.

Stop At: Mig-19 Monument, Yunosti St., Tiraspol Moldova

Aviator memorial can be found at Balka dst. It commemorates thirty years of victory in the Great Patriotic war. I didn’t add all hidden gems in between these listed attractions, but they are great to make the tour really unforgettable and contrast! Highly recommend brutal tour - some lost places we have here are more impressive than Chernobyl. My wife says no one should go to Chernobyl, but every other traveler I meet either just came from there or is heading there next. Luckily there was no radiation here, it was ussr collapse. Finally we have an option to go to some eerie lost places from gone era that will satisfy lovers of Tarkovsky cinematography or post-apocalyptic movies, it is a way to explore “exclusion zone” without radiation risk or crowds of people you definitely see around in actual Chernobyl exclusion zone. I also can’t reveal these places here, just make notice, adventurers, it’s also tour of a lifetime!

Duration: 5 minutes

Stop At: Tiraspol, Tiraspol, Transnistria

For lovers of Tarkovsky cinematography, post-apocalyptic movies and USSR legacy there is a brutal version of the tour. Impressive soviet lost places and Chernobyl style cityscapes of Transnistria will make your heart beat faster and leave you speechless, I can’t reveal where we go without the risk of subsequent demolition of these eerie gems, but I guarantee unforgettable trip. It is also important to keep these urban wastelands a secret for keeping melancholic atmosphere of solitude, you know, the best and only way to explore such things is to do it alone, let’s keep it this way. No one can predict how long these communism remains will be accessible so the whole idea is to discover everything while it still exists and do it without overcrowd of people. In a way, this journey is a chance to explore a version of Chernobyl “exclusion zone” without crowds of tourists that overfill real Pripyat and actual Chernobyl exclusion zone. There is no radiation here luckily, not here.

This is no ordinary tour, where the guide shows you sights and rattles off dates and figures which you can google yourself. Anton Dendemarchenko takes you behind the curtain to discover just what it means to live in transnistria, both now and in the time of the Soviet Union. If you want a real tour with a real local and to discover the real culture of this country that “doesn’t exist”, look no further than a tour with Anton.

Where to start? We met Anton at a soviet cafe in Tiraspol, and we set off to see the various sights. Throughout the tour, Anton was extremely knowledgeable and engaging, drawing in personal experiences, family experiences, and some experiences from passersby. Issues surrounding his legitimate/illegitimate status gave us an insight into his very REAL life as a Pridnestrovian. Some of the tour included walking and also some travel by car (accompanied by a soviet playlist!) which was a necessity as some sights were too far to go by foot. Anton is an extremely passionate Pridnestrovian and a great ambassador for their people. This tour is a must if you visit Tiraspol. The country (regardless of government advice) is as safe as any Western country and you won't face any difficulty at the border. Anton provided some homemade souvenirs for purchase at the end which was a great addition and dropped us back at a central location not far from the bus station. A great tour by all accounts! The flame still burns in this country from the past. ☭

Anton really portrays well this country and it’s the most local tour you could get! He’s very passionate about his work and showing you the real side of Transnistria. I got to talk to locals, visit a library, drink homemade wine, eat in a Soviet canteen, try his mum’s cookies and see the best secret view of Tiraspol! It’s not a typical tour you might find somewhere else, it’s a tour where you get the needed information and so much more. Definitely recommended! 🥰

I decided to visit Tiraspol and Transnistria as I was visiting Moldova and could not miss this chance. My overall interaction with Anton was amazing. He is a very nice person, kind, and also a very hardworking father. I would rate this trip as 5/5 in terms of safety, sightseeing, flexibility, and information provided. I was picked up from in front of my hotel in Chisinau and brought back safely by Dima. Dima did not speak any English, but he had amazing driving skills, was very flexible with any stop requests, the car was clean, and it was a fun ride. Dima took me to the stadium as well, and he had the patience to stop at each Soviet bus station I asked to take a photo of a mosaic. We passed the border quite quickly, and soon we were in Tiraspol, where I met Anton. I got to explore Tiraspol with Anton as a one-on-one tour and felt spoiled. Anton had a lot of stories to tell, a lot of history to share in an engaging way next to each monument, but also, we were limited in time, so he adjusted accordingly to my expectations. It did feel a bit chaotic at certain moments, but Anton adjusting to what I wanted to see and where I wanted to go, all this while we had a chat like old friends, made it worth it. Considering the group side, the logistics, and organization, maybe this could have been done cheaper, but having a local person that wants to share about their country and life there, taking you around and interacting with locals, I would say it's worth the money. In the end, Anton prepared a small collection of souvenirs for me, highly appreciated that he is being creative about his work. Would I go again? Yes. I would consider it a good price for this tour in terms of safety and comfort by Western standards.
