We were picked up from the hotel at 1.20pm. The driver then picked up other customers on the way. We arrived at the venue at 3.20pm. We were told once we arrived that we would be waiting for an hour for the dune bashing but tried to upsell other options, ie, buggy’s and quad bikes, which if I had wanted those, I would have booked them in advance in package. After waiting around for over an hour and by the time got to the car we were then told to walk into desert when others were driven in. I booked car dune bashing because I have done it before in Qatar and have lived in the Middle East. I wanted to be in air conditioned car as I also had hurt my back a few weeks prior so didn’t want to walk for miles in the desert for fun. Then we had to stand and wait for the car to pick us up in the desert. Finally got in the dune bashing car at 4:35. We had around 15mins of dune bashing in the car and were dropped off the same place as we had walked to in the beginning for photos at 4:50. Then had to stand and wait for car to pick up all the other people and our group were told to eventually walk back out of the desert to car, which had been parked at the beginning next to where we had sat and waited an hour previous. We then sat in the pick up car from 5:25 until 5:45 waiting. Then proceeded to drive to the bbq area, we missed sunset and got to the bbq area where we were hounded by people trying to sell you items and putting things on you as soon as you got out the car and forcing you to buy them. When having already paid for a package we were told by the woman that the package we had meant we would get one piece of chicken and that basically the package was rubbish. So we were forced to pay another 100dirham to eat then, which at this point it was 6:30pm and were told if we upgraded to vip we could eat now otherwise had to wait until 7:40 after two of the shows. During our vip “experience” we were hounded and constantly interrupted by people selling other items and upgrades while we tried to eat food. The show ended at 8pm. We then had to wait until 9pm to get a car to get to the pick up car. The driver then pulled over at a restaurant to go into and left us sat waiting in the car while he had a cigarette. At 10:30pm after the first drop off, he then decided to stop at a gas station to buy aftershave and have a catch up with his friend. At which point, my partner and I got an Uber home from the gas station. 9 hours of waiting around for 15minutes of actual activities. If you want to see the best of Dubai, this is not the way to do so. This is one way to put tourists off visiting the Middle East.
