"The most conspicuous landmark of Saqqara is the Step Pyramid, the tomb of the third Dynasty ruler Djoser or Zoser, built by Imhotep and thought to be the earliest major stone structure erected in Egypt. The form of the pyramid can be explained as a development of the large mastabas (mud-brick tombs) of the First and Second Dynasties; the six steps, each smaller than the one below, having been produced by the addition to the original mastaba of successive new layers of masonry, accompanied by the enlargement of the lower stages.
The Step Pyramid stands 60 meters high and is built of locally quarried clay sandstone of poor quality. You can no longer enter the pyramid due to safety issues. The chambers and passages in the interior of the pyramid served partly for the burial of close relatives of the King (in particular those of his sons who died in childhood) and partly for storing grave-goods for the use of the dead"

This Jordan/Egypt trip was a bucket list for me from my childhood! Pros - I saw the wonderful sites thanks to Look at Egypt Tours. Cons - 1. The one thing that made things really sour was the Lead Guide/Co-Ordinator forcefully asking us to withdraw money at midnight as we landed into Cairo (never mind the full jet lag we were in!) and demanding how much tip needs given to all there. 2. Once during the trip there were two drivers, who both needed tipping. Once there were two guides both needing tipped!! I understand tipping is a culture in some countries, but this should not be used as an emotional blackmail. After all, we save for such momentous trip and have it soured...!! We tried few other La Vacanza Travel service providers and they were brilliant!

We had a great time with this company. I travel to 3-4 new countries a year and this was sooo much fun! I Traveled with my husband and 6 of our friends. We had a lovely time. Zero issues. Shout out to our Egyptian guides/staff - Rhonda, Mamoud, Moo, and Aboud (Jordan). We felt safe, educated, and pampered on our stay. When the GEM opens we will be back and will tour with Look at Egypt and Rhonda again in Cairo! She was the best. The mountains Mamoud moved for us - shawarma at 4am, getting us through the airport- we felt we had the VIP treatment. Also can’t forget Fayrouz in the office, I think she answered all 100 emails I sent with kindness and quickly. Shokran to all that made our trip a trip of a life time!
