Itinerary

Pass By: Goreme, Goreme, Cappadocia

A town literally carved into the volcanic rock, Goreme is the gateway to the Goreme National Park, a vast UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses spectacular 10th- and 11th-century cave churches. The park itself is known for its chimney rock formations and is very popular with backpackers. It’s also a great area to sample Turkish cuisine and wine.

Pass By: Cappadocia, Cappadocia

Lying in south central Turkey, the moonscaped region of Cappadocia, southeast of Ankara, is most famous for unique geological features called fairy chimneys. The large, cone-like formations were created over time by erosion of the relatively soft volcanic ash around them. Past cultures have dug into them to create dwellings, castles (like Uchisar) and even entire underground cities like Kaymakli and Derinkuyu, used as hiding places by early Christians. Nearby Kayseri is the gateway to the area.

Stop At: Goreme Open-Air Museum, Merkez, Muze Cd., Goreme 50180 Turkey

The Goreme Open-Air Museum resembles a vast monastic complex composed of scores of refectory monasteries placed side-by-side, each with its own fantastic church. It is obviously the first sight to be visited by any traveler in Cappadocia, standing as it does in the very center of the region with easy access from all directions.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Pasabag, Urgup Turkey

Pasabag in Cappadocia is located on the road to Zelve, coming from Goreme or Avanos. Highly remarkable earth pillars can be seen here, in the middle of a vineyard, hence the name of the place which means: the Pacha's vineyard. Pacha means "General", the military rank, in Turkish and it is a very common nick name. This site is also called Monks Valley. The name was derived from some cones carved in tuff stones which stand apart. Currently, there is a vineyard and a number of tuff cones standing right next to the road.

pigeon Valley (often misspelled as Ilhara Valley), near Mount Hasan and Mount Melendiz (two of the three volcanoes of Cappadocia) is a canyon with a depth of approximately 100m and was formed by the Melendiz River thousands of years ago. Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Kaymakli Underground City, Derinkuyu Turkey

Kaymakli underground city is built under the hill known as the Citadel of Kaymakli and was opened to visitors in 1964. The people of Kaymakli (Enegup in Greek) village have constructed their houses around nearly one hundred tunnels of the underground city. The inhabitants of the region still use the most convenient places in the tunnels as cellars, storage areas and stables, which they access through their courtyards. The Kaymakli Underground City has low, narrow and sloping passages. While the underground city consists of 8 floors below ground, only 4 of them are open to the public today, in which the spaces are organized around ventilation shafts.

Pass By: Urgup, Urgup, Cappadocia

The Cappadocia region's most upscale and contemporary tourist city, Urgup has a number of lovely hotels, many built in and around centuries-old cave dwellings. The city and its surrounding area are known for their mysterious fairy chimneys, early Christian rock churches and fine vineyards. A mix of ancient and modern, Urgup is a center for traditional handmade carpets, but also has a lively nightlife. Hot air ballooning is very popular, and a fantastic way to see the area's beauty from above.

Stop At: Uchisar Castle, Uchisar Turkey

Uchisar is situated at the highest point in Cappadocia, on the Nevsehir-Goreme road, just 5 km from Goreme. The top of the Uchisar Castle, provides a magnificent panorama of the surrounding area with Mount Erciyes in the distance.

Our tour was a blast. The tour guide is very kind and knows perfectly all the highlights in Capadocia. The transportation is incredibly comfortable, and we arrived quick and on time to every one of the stops. We also had some free time to eat exquisite local food and to buy some souveniers. I highly recommend this tour to everyone who’s planning visit Capadocia. No regrets. Thanks for the magnificent explanation of every detail to our tour guide, who was very warm and pleasant with our little demands.

The guide was the best part - Ahmet is local of the area (for atleast 15 years) and is a very knowledgeable guide. He is also easy to communicate with a good command of the English language. He showed us the key spots and let us explore at our own pace. The van was clean, large and comfortable. Would highly recommend Ahmet.

I loved the way our guide Elif did the tour. We were taught so much but also had time on our own when we wanted it to explore or get photos. Elif knows SO much about the history of Cappadocia and Turkey. The additional information really made the tour more fun and interesting. As a private tour with out own van Elif was flexible on where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see, that made the price SO worth it! If anyone tells me they are going to Turkey I let them know they have to take this tour!
