Impromptu climbing experience in HK that has ticked so many boxes for my short trip! The Guide Phil was organized and thoughtful about the right gear (extra pair of climbing shoes for sizing), methodical with some climbing coaching, and who also doled out lots of cool tips on local hiking trails ideas and even ways to turn old climbing ropes into rugs. Importantly I was shown the side of HK that I have never seen before - that the bushes along the hiking path could be that entry point leading up to some really nice mix of climbing crags and routes, such as the area that we climbed at at Black Crags, tucked behind some residential buildings and just a few minutes up from Happy Valley! Definitely added to a sense of adventure and ticked my box to experience Hong Kong “off the beaten path”, pun intended! Not to mention the views from reaching the top of the routes looking towards the Southside of HK Island was just breathtaking, worth every ounce of the work to get up there. Highly recommend this experience whether you are looking for a little adventure, great guiding company, meeting fellow local rock climbers, or all of the above!
