Sheung Wan will be the first stop of the food tour, which will take you to an authentic decades-old dim sum teahouse, a recipient of Michelin Guide for many years until 2020. Don't let its modest interior fool you, the place is always packed with locals. Tucked away in a narrow road in Sheung Wan area, Kai Fat Tea shop selling tea, assorted candies and other mouth-watering Chinese sweets made from fruits and other natural ingredients, has been around for more than 30 years. Kai Fat Tea means Tea Inspired House, might be small but it has now become one of the tea and other of its products' suppliers to many restaurants and shops in Hong Kong and overseas. With more than a century’s history, Graham Street Market is a great place to experience life as a local. Experience Mid-Levels Escalator, the longest outdoor escalator in the world. Enjoy and observe the vibrant city life while you take on a 15 minutes ride on the escalator. It is 800 meters in distance and elevates 135 meters up to the hilly areas that end in Conduit Road.

Here you will hop off the escalator and stop at a modest-looking milk tea place. It’s more than 52 years old and that’s down to one simple thing: the pantyhose. The secret to Lan Fong Yuen’s signature milk tea has been straining the brew through, you guessed it, a pair of pantyhose for an extra smooth taste.

Pass By: Tai Kwun - Centre for Heritage and Arts, 10 Hollywood Road, Central, Hong Kong China

Tai Kwun presents a wide range of heritage, contemporary art, performing arts and lifestyle experiences in the restored and revitalised Central Police Station compound, which comprises three Declared Monuments, the former Central Police Station, the Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison. It is the recipient of the Award of Excellence in the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation 2019.

Stop At: Hong Kong Tramways (Ding Ding), Hong Kong China

Best explored on foot, Wan Chai District offers a wealth of heritage hideaways and modern hot spots — be they nightlife, dining, shopping or cultural — that make it an essential stop for any visitor.

Here our food tour stops at another family-run, Michelin Guide recommended restaurant, which dates back to the pre-20th century Qing Dynasty and is renowned for its Char Siu Fan (BBQ pork rice). It is a must-stop for everyone who claimed themselves as foodies. Try the Char Siu Fan, the pork is just the right amount of meat, fat and sauce, the contents of which they keep a closely guarded secret. This is the late Anthony Bourdain's favourite. You will leave with a smile and a happy belly.

Here we will proceed to a well-established bakery, a personal favorite of a former Hong Kong governor. Get your hands on some of the famous Egg Tart, or Dan Tat in Cantonese, a Chinese version of an English pastry — the custard tart.

This tour exceeded expectations! Our guide Mel was extremely knowledgeable and not only well-versed in the food portion of the tour, but also about the various sites and other points of interest discussed on the tour. He was engaging and enthusiastic - a real pleasure to spend a half day with! We've lived here for more than 7 years and yet we learned a lot about Hong Kong Island's food history and character, as well as its unique and interesting backstreets and areas of historical significance. The food was fabulous - make sure you come hungry!

Saw and tried foods that I never thought I'd eat in Hong Kong! It was my first time their with my girlfriend and we ate SO much food. Definitely come hungry. Highly recommend.

Mel was great taking us around Hong Kong showing us and sharing with us about Hong Kong we enjoyed the walking tour and the places we went to eat and went Back to a couple of places during our stay.

We absolutely LOVED our food tour with MEL in mid-December. We started at 9:30AM and since all of the protests have scared off tourists, it ended up being a private tour. We met MEL outside a Starbucks in the main downtown area on HKI and then he started with a brief history of China’s food culture. I loved that he continued to reference this overview throughout the tour. Our first stop was a traditional dim sum restaurant and proved to be our favorite spot! Mel took care of ordering, based on our preferences, and showed us customary traditions for eating and helped us with some chopstick basics :) we then went through some of the fried seafood markets and Mel told us a lot about Chinese medicine traditions. We stopped at a local candy shop and had a tea ceremony - if you go here, buy some tea! We regretted not doing so later...the tea was SO good! Then we visited Mak’s noodle and really enjoyed hearing about the Mak family and their restaurants around the island. The soup was not our favorite, but enjoyed the ambiance and history. We then went through some of the mid-level elevators to get ‘lady’s stocking tea’ and egg tarts! Really enjoyed both and learning about the Hong Kong history of each snack! Mel then took us through some traditional markets which were amazing. All of the fruits and vegetables looked incredible. We then ended with some BBQ pork in Wan Chai - this place was incredibly authentic and we stuck out like a sore thumb, but I loved being there. A place we wouldn’t have tried without Mel, but we’re so glad to experience it. I would absolutely recommend this experience while in Hong Kong as it is something we’re still talking about weeks after our trip!!!
