Overview

Our food tour is a leisurely stroll through the city with a local foodie. The tour offers you a unique opportunity to taste the fantastic Tyrolean cuisine, to enjoy local dishes, and to hear the interesting stories behind them. During a four hour tour we will walk through Innsbruck, with various culinary stops. Please come HUNGRY :-) It will be an unforgettable journey through the flavors and culture of the Tyrolean cuisine.

At the "Innsbruck Food Tour" you will get to know and love the Tyrolean capital from its culinary side. No - It's not another cheesy tourist tour. Accompanied by a "local", you can enjoy typical and local delicacies and specialties, with a nice walk through beautiful Innsbruck. We love Tyrolean food and drinks, and we want to share our world-renowned specialties - from sweet to savory - with you! Become a "Foodie", we will help you!

Itinerary

Pass By: Innsbruck Food Tours, in front of the Innsbruck Markthalle, Innsbruck 6020 Austria

This and MORE you will enjoy:

We will start with our farmers in the Innsbruck market hall („Markthalle Innsbruck“). They are the backbone of the Tyrolean cuisine. There are also many local farmers who prepare samples, through which they convey their passion for the local and traditional culinary art.

"White or rather crumbly?" - Try a Tyrolean grey cheese („Graukäse“), perhaps in combination with a fiery chutney? On the tour a cheese sommelier will present typical local cheeses.

Then we will dive into the world of bread. Here you will be able to "sniff out" the unique history of baking bread - the kind of insight that usually is not easily accessible for tourists.

In a local bread manufacturer in Innsbruck you will get to know and appreciate bread as a form of ancient cultural heritage, lovingly and passionately produced with hundreds of years of traditional knowledge and experience.

For lunch you will taste specialities from the different Tyrolean regions, indulge your palate with various delicacies and listen to interesting stories.

As Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once wrote, ”If you have eaten and drunk, you are born as new; Be stronger, braver, more skilled at your business". And so lunch will be followed by a digestive walk through the city, the caffeinated and award-winning awakener (coffee), and sweet temptations that tell Tyrolean history.

Next, a culinary, historical journey will take us centuries into the past, until we finally end up at a cozy "Marend" and taste samples of that specialty, with which Tyrol was usually first associated.

Kurt the instructor is amazing. He has great knowledge of the culture, the history and of course the food and it's origins. Even the jokes are not bad :)

We had a wonderful food tour with Kurt today and learned so much about the culture of Innsbruck. The Tyrolean cuisine was delightful. I recommend skipping breakfast before the tour, because there is so much food to enjoy. Kurt even provided us with a bag to keep all the leftovers which we had later that evening. 100% recommend this tour!!!

Anytime I see a tour or activity that is ranked #1 for the city, immediately there is a lot to live up to. Kurt, and Innsbruck Food Tours, deserve every last kudos he has received. From my very first interaction with him, requesting a custom date for our group's limited time window visiting Innsbruck, Kurt was warm, friendly, and a true professional. He clearly knows and loves his city and we are thrilled to have selected this as our one and only tour in Innsbruck. It is so much more than just a city food tour (we have been on many) - it is an overview of the city and Tyrloean culture. If you also book only one tour in Innsbruck, make sure this is it. And an extra special thank you to Kurt for pulling off a spectacular tour while battling a couple grumpy and jet lagged toddlers in our group. Thanks for everything Kurt!

Highly recommended. Professional and well organized. Kurt provided a fun and entertaining tour of Tirol food and culture. His intimate knowledge of the food and the local businesses who fed us was a fascinating insight into the Tirol region. It included a walk around old town Innsbruck and a local market—-each stop was a feast for the eyes, soul and belly.

Look no further! If you are a foodie and love history, this tour is for you! This tour truly made my visit to Innsbruck extra special. Kurt was an amazing guide who has a passion about Austrian/Tyrolean cuisine, history and agriculture, including sustainability. I learned a lot! His vast knowledge of the region was impressive and his personal stories he shared were intriguing and funny as well! Great conversation throughout! And I cannot forget about the food and drink! Each stop was unique with a story to be told about the food and the businesses we visited. Everything was absolutely delicious. We had local cheese, breads, speck (paired with a wonderful glass of wine!), spaetzle, pastries, chocolate, coffee, etc...and of course the turnip schnapps ;-)! I HIGHLY recommend this tour. You will not be disappointed. And as Kurt says, Come Hungry!!! You will have leftovers! Thanks again Kurt, you are an inspiration!
