it was my first time doing such intense sledding and it was even thrilling at night! there were many guides to ensure our safety throughout the trail down. fondue after was great but i think coming from Singapore with multiple religions, i would suggest Outdoor to indicate that the fondue has alcohol as there was a couple with us who were from Dubai which meant no alcohol and no pork in their diet - they ended up watching us eat the whole dinner :/ Process: we were picked up by the guide and proceeded to the shop to fill our names. please note to wear snow/hiking boots and SKI PANTS. lots of people had to rent ski pants. jeans will not do cause it absorbs water and you will freeze. we were then driven to a location to collect our sleds + take the cable car up (it was just side by side). there was a bit of walking involved to our sledding start point and from there, the guides will teach you how to control your sled and what to do IF you fall into deep snow. the trail was F A S T - not meant for kids hahahah. and the turns can get pretty sharp so there is a lot of controlling going on. one will work up a sweat after. there is also a lot of stopping and walking involved as some parts of the trail are flat ground and not a slope, which is not suitable for sledding. lastly, we end up sledding down a deep but short slope. PLEASE note that you may get injured. we were not given instructions to stand up and move to a side at the end so the sleds keeps coming down and banging into the people/sled in front. i got injured at the very end when we were all ready to leave because one of the participants still had the sled on the ground (maybe she just sledded down) and i stepped on it and hit my calf with my own sled that i was carrying. i had the fondue package so i was whisked away to the restaurant near the shop at the end. the pre fondue dinner which was macaroni and bacon was really great (again, Outdoor should indicate that there is pork for their muslim guests).
This trip exceeded my expectations! In the USA sledding is for children but not in Switzerland, these sleds went fast! We had a blast going down the mountain and the view at night was amazing! Enjoyed the fondue experience at a famous interlaken restaurant. Highly recommend.
Okay to start with: I'm not a snow activity person. I've skiied once and didnt love it. I've never sled before. But 'nightsledding' in the Alps sounded so appealing and I wanted to push myself out of my comfot zone. I was definetely nervous and scared; infact, I was always at the end of the pack taking my own time. I couldnt have done it without such a great staff member Ana. She was with me the whole time, gently encouraged me, watched out for me, sled on the outsides to make me feel safer... she was the true rock star. Thank you Ana! The whole team was very friendly and supportive. I'ts a very surreal experience to be out there in the mountains in the dark... Our legs were burning during and after and all of the next day. Be prepared for a workout!
After thinking this activity would be cancelled due to a lack of snow, we had an eleventh hour reprieve! We got to sled Isenfluh with a party of nine! The stars at the top of the gondola ride alone would have made the entire night worth the journey. Sebastian was a great tour leader. A real local with some great insights, a wonderful sense of humor, and a confidence on the trail. There was not a lot of light, but enough to have a great time and feel safe at all times. I strongly recommend this activity for anyone looking for another way to enjoy the winter weather in Interlaken! I think next time I would opt out of the fondue dinner. You're in Switzerland, you're gonna eat melted cheese along the way. While this certainly wasn't an overpriced dinner, and the ambiance of the restaurant was great, swarms of exchange students from Florence swamped the restaurant, making the course of the evening a little unclear, causing a separation of our party, and leaving us on a fine-but-sometimes-awkward first date with another pair of sledders.
The night sledding was a really good experience. I went in a group of 10 friends and we all had a blast. We were disappointed in the fondue dinner. Although, the dinner tasted good it wasn't as filling as we hoped. The salad was very small, they gave us 1/4 glass of wine, the pasta was small, but the fondue with bread was good.
