Overview

Begin a special evening in Istanbul with this sunset cruise. Witness breathtaking views over the shimmering waters of Istanbul's magnificent Bosphorus. Cruise past ornate Ottoman palaces, grand villas, mosques and mansions. See the great domes and elegant minarets which grace Istanbul's skyline. Witness the spectacle of Istanbul's city lights dancing across the water from Europe to Asia.

Visitors to Istanbul should not miss to make a Bosphorus cruise on the 32 km (20-mile) long strait which joins the Sea of Marmara to the south with the Black Sea to the north of Istanbul.

Its English name "Bosporus" comes from mythology. Zeus had an affair with a beautiful woman named lo. When Hera, his wife, discovered his infidelity, she turned Io into a cow and created a horsefly to sting her on the rump. lo jumped clear across the strait.

What you see on the Cruise:

Topkapi Palace, Europe

You motor out of the Golden Horn past Topkapı Palace, covering the hill at the tip of Saray Burnu (Palace Point).

Maiden's Tower, mid Bosphorus

A 12th-century Byzantine fortress occupied the tiny islet where the 18th-century Kız Kulesi (also called Leander's Tower) now stands. A tower here may have served as a customs post. Featured in the James Bond movie From Russia With Love, the tower now houses a restaurant.

Üsküdar, Asia

The largest Asian district, directly across the Bosphorus.

Dolmabahce Palace, Europe

The façade of this great Ottoman palace (1853) is nearly a quarter of a mile (400 meters) long.

Cıragan Palace, Europe

Finished in 1874, the marble palace of Ciragan (CHEE-rah-AHN) has a tragic history.

Yıldız Park & Palace, Europe

The swath of green forest behind Ciragan is Yıldız ("Star") Park.

Ortaköy & Mecidiye Mosque, Europe

You've probably seen photos of the Mecidiye Mosque (1854).

Bosphorus Bridge (connecting Europe and Asia)

Ever since the Persian emperor Darius built his bridge of boats acoss the Bosphorus in 490 BC, rulers of Istanbul have dreamt of a bridge between Europe and Asia.

Beylerbeyi Palace, Asia

2.5 km (1.5 miles) northeast of Üsküdar, is a "small" Istanbul summer palace overlooking the Bosphorus from its Asian shore

Northern Bosphorus

Beyond the Bosphorus Bridge there's plenty more to see: The village of Cengelköy, Kuleli Naval Academy, Arnavutköy with its photogenic Ottoman yalıs (wooden Bosphorus seaside mansions), Rumeli Hisarı (the mighty Fortress of Europe), the town of Bebek with its pretty bay, and Bosphorus University.

Excellent experience! I was very worried about ambiguous directions provided but it was actually very easy to find. If you take the tram to last station of Kabatas and walk towards the gas station, you will see a ticket kiosk redeeming the voucher. The boat was a bit dirty, but spacious, has a bathroom and offers some refreshments and snacks. Second floor is an open space, so you could sit, walk around, take pictures, etc. The tour lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes. There is no guide on this boat, but there is a pre-recording played in Turkish and English that announces major sites the boat is passing. It takes you through almost entire Bosphorus, so you can see glimpses of Marmara Sea on one end and Black Sea on the other. I only wish it came closer to the Maiden Tower Kiz Kulesi but it is still seen in the distance.

Very nice and affordable cruise. You get the feel of the city of Istanbul from the Bospherous River. Many people commented that location was hard to find, however, it can't get any simpler. the ferry is right behind the service station 50 m walk from is Kabatas tam station.

Our guide came and picked us up from our hotel, though it wasn't part of the price, he gave us tons of info on Istanbul, and even paid for our metro ticket. This was the most attentive tour we've ever experienced. Not only did we arrive at the dock safely, but we also learned so much more about life in Istanbul. Thank you!
