The Blue Mosque
The Blue Mosque (known in Turkey as the Sultan Ahmet Mosque) is a historic mosque in Istanbul. It is known as the Blue Mosque because of the blue mosaics that are part of the design of its internal walls.
The mosque was built between 1609 and 1616 during the rule of Sultan Ahmed I, like other mosques it also includes the tomb of its founder, a madrasa and a hospice. In addition to being used even as a mosque it has also become a popular attraction in Istanbul.
