Overview

A common feedback from all our visitors has been that getting to meet a local family, in this case members of the Royal Family, is the most memorable part of their trip. While some conversations are about how the family reacts to their non-royal status today, most conversations are around day to day happenings in Kochi/Kerala and also about the country of the visitor. It is like meeting with friends whom you have not been in touch with for a long time, and this a happy reunion. The host family is well travelled and well educated which makes the conversation so much more enriching. The local history of the family and that of the city of Kochi/Kerala sets the tone for the meet with the family. Visitors also get to spend good time in a part of Kochi that is hardly visited by tourists, both foreign as well as domestic.

A Good unique experience and an off beat from the regular tours. Being Rajit it just adds to the experience while he talks and walks you into the Royal History of Cochin.

This tour was the highlight of our stay in Cochin. We had an excellent time in Rajith's company! He is very knowledgeable and passionate about his job! He knows so many interesting facts that even Indians don't know (my husband is Indian). Most importantly, what I appreciated the most was that the tour was not commercial and it was unique in its design. This is the only tour (that I'm aware of) that organises royal family visits. And it's not like you go and observe them from somewhere or exchange a couple of courtesies and then feel obliged to leave. We spent real time with them, enjoying tea and cookies and speaking about everything in the world. And they made us feel so comfortable that we didn't want to leave :) We enjoyed this tour so much that we asked Rajith to organise a tour for our 50 guests from Europe who are visiting us in January for a family event.

The Cochin Royal Heritage Trail was a particularly unique experience. Members of the royal family live and work in Kochi today. Their palaces are in this one area of town. While being larger than the typical home in the area, they're not grand structures. They're notable for their architecture and the history contained within. Unfortunately they are being gradually demolished to make way for modern buildings. Our guide Rajith arranged for us to meet one family in their home. They served us home-made food and we talked about their role as royals in the modern day. They showed us family photos and talked about their history. The two small children in our group (ages 6 and 4), were tired and close to “melting down” by the time we got to the home. But they rebounded immediately in the hospitality and spent a lot of the time running around the courtyard area of their main structure. It was a very warm, welcoming and educational time.
