Stop At: Gombak, Batu Caves 68100 Malaysia

The limestone forming Batu Caves is said to be around 400 million years old. Some of the cave entrances were used as shelters by the indigenous Temuan people (a tribe of Orang Asli). As early as 1860, Chinese settlers began excavating guano for fertilising their vegetable patches. However, they became famous only after the limestone hills were recorded by colonial authorities including Daly and Syers as well as American Naturalist, William Hornaday in 1878. Batu Caves was promoted as a place of worship by K. Thamboosamy Pillai, an Indian trader. He was inspired by the vel-shaped entrance of the main cave and was inspired to dedicate a temple to Lord Murugan within the caves. In 1890, Pillai, who also founded the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, Kuala Lumpur, installed the murti (consecrated statue) of Sri Murugan Swami in what is today known as the Temple Cave. Since 1892, the Thaipusam festival in the Tamil month of Thai (which falls in late January/early February) has been celebrated there. Wooden steps up to the Temple Cave were built in 1920 and have since been replaced by 272 concrete steps. Of the various cave temples that comprise the site, the largest and best known is the Temple Cave, so named because it houses several Hindu shrines beneath its high vaulted ceiling. In August 2018 the 272 steps were painted in an extraordinary colour scheme, with each set of steps painted in a different range of colours. However accusations were almost immediately made by the National Heritage Department for a breach of law requiring authorisation for renovations within 200 metres of a heritage site. The temple's management disputed their failure to receive authorisation.

Set within Bandar Gohtong Jaya, it’s accessible within a six-minute drive from the Genting Premium The idea of a hill resort located near Kuala Lumpur occurred to Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong during a business trip to the Cameron Highlands in 1964. He mooted this idea while enjoying the fresh and crisp air from the balcony of his hotel room. A private company called Genting Highlands Berhad was set up on 27 April 1965, with the late Tan Sri Haji Mohammed Noah bin Omar, Tan Sri Lim successfully obtained approval for the alienation of 12,000 acres (4,900 ha) and 2,800 acres (1,100 ha) of land from the Pahang and Selangor State Government respectively between the years 1965 and 1970. An anomaly happened during the obtaining of the land approvals. While the Pahang state government swiftly approved a freehold lease, the Selangor state reluctantly approved a 99-year lease. As a result, Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong met the then Menteri Besar of Selangor, Dato Harun Idris and told him that a freehold lease would be more feasible than a 99-year lease. Finally, the Selangor state government agreed to grant a freehold lease.

A great day with a great tour. Our driver, Mohammed, was the perfect host. He was prompt, cordial, and shared lots of info about the caves and the highlands. He was always doing anything, and everything possible to make our experience fantastic. As I've mentioned...a really great tour. Thank you Mohammed!!!

Going up the batu caves and the cable car was amazing but we were lost in the very big mall and couldn’t find the same gate we entered from to meet the driver. Then we decided to go out from any gate and call him to come pick us . I texted him and he received and read my messages so we waited in the street under rain for more than 30 minutes. I tried to reach him several times but he lost connection so we went back to the mall and tried to find that gate again suddenly he called us and didn’t sound helpful at all! He just waited at the same point he dropped us while we were lost in the mall! After about 1 more hour being lost we finally found our way out while he could had picked us up in 5 minutes only!!!! We were very upset!!!!

Time of pick up was perfect. Driver’s attitude is commendable and very well knowledgeable. Clean car as well. But if you ask me for the value of money, its not. Package cost is exceptionally expensive considering the duration and places which was seen. Not advisable.

Worst trip ive ever been on. The taxi smelt awful, the taxi driver had a bottle of urine in the front footwell, it was disgusting. The smell made us all feel sick. His chair was also broken, it was leaning into me where I sat in the back , every time he went over a bump I worried it was going to fully break and crush my legs. Not a pleasant or comfortable way to spend a day.
