Stop At: Bako National Park, Jalan Bako, Kuching 93050 Malaysia

The one thing you may notice all over Sarawak would be the abundance of greenery that covers a large area of the land. To kick off a nature-infused tour, head down to Bako National Park; famed for being the oldest National Park in Sarawak. This is a golden opportunity to discover and explore Sarawakian rainforests and wildlife. Located at the northern tip of Muara Tebas Peninsula

Gazetted as a national park in 1957, Bako has almost every type of vegetation found in Borneo. Wildlife sightings are almost guaranteed, long- tailed macaque monkeys, sliver leaf monkeys, wild boar, squirrels and monitor lizards are commonly seen around the park and so are the rare proboscis monkeys.

Tour start and depart in the morning for Bako National Park. A half hour ride takes you to the fishing village of Bako to board a boat for the Park headquarters. Bako is the oldest gazetted national park in Sarawak. It offers the perfect introduction to Sarawak flora and fauna.  The 16 square kilometers of primary forests is home to seven distinct ecosystems; beach vegetation, cliff vegetation, mangrove, peat swamp forests, mixed dipterocarp forest, heath forest and grasslands. Constant erosion over millions of years has turned the Bako coastline into a unique geographical landmark. Cliff faces, sandstone structures, sea stacks and pristine sandy beaches dot the area.  Wildlife thriving in the area includes the rather intrusive long tailed macaques which roam all over and their shier cousins, the silver leaf monkeys and the long-nosed, and the unusual potbellied Proboscis Monkeys. Other denizens include flying lemur, mouse deer, bearded pigs, bats, tarsiers, slow loris and palm civet cats.

After spending a few hours here then proceed to the famous sea stack before returning to Kuching City.

!! SCAM ALERT !! My family and I booked this tour (operator is ASNI TOURS AND TRAVEL) as we have a special needs son (Autism & ADHD) and wanted a guide so we can focus on our son as we were guided through the sights and sounds of the National Park. The company chartered a bus for us and we arrived at Kampung Bako jetty and... THERE WAS NO TOUR GUIDE. After some asking around and calling the operator, the tour operator told me to wait while she checked on the matter. After calling back to find out the progress, she refused to pick up the call and after a few more calls, the call was immediately directed to voicemail. We were left hanging at the jetty, no guide, having made full payment and with a special needs son who was getting cranky and unregulated due to the situation. Thankfully the driver, Mr Azmi, was a true gentleman and helped us make alternate arrangements at the jetty as my wife and I handled my upset and cranky special son. A local guide he engaged, Mr Bujang, took us on the tour and we had a wonderful time. It has been over 48 hours since being stood up by Asni Tours & Travel and they have yet to even contact me to apologise or explain what happened despite being paid in full. Want a TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read)? > Paid Operator (Asni Tours & Travel) but the guide never appeared and no apology/explanation given.
