Stop At: Selcuk, Selcuk, Izmir Province, Turkish Aegean Coast

A particular aspect has always puzzled me about the Turkish travel market. The ancient ruins of Ephesus on the Aegean coast of Turkey are a top visited attraction of the country, receiving thousands of visitors daily, especially in summer. Yet, if I look at a majority of overnight tours on travel agency sites, hardly any of them mention Selcuk town, where Ephesus is based.

We had an extra day in Kusadasi and wanted to explore non-historical sites. This tour was perfect for us. We enjoyed the knowledge that Bilal shared with us as he took us to terrific restaurants. The breakfast layout was so good, I could have stayed there all day. But no, we then went to Sirince for some Turkish tea and a walk around the quaint village. The food didn't end, nor did the tour. We ended up in Selcuk for our final lunch and baklava. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with Bilal. Highly recommend this adventure! Don't forget to ask for Bilal.

This tour was an amazing surprise! I expected food of course, but this was so much more! It was an immersion into the rural Turkish culture and community. From a village community center breakfast to an authentic Turkish coffee experience to local wines, ice creams, and baklava this was a highlight of our trip. Our guide was so kind and generous and gave us a whole new perspective on many of our preconceived notions. We are so grateful for this experience.

This was a unique and wonderful tour that I would highly recommend. Bilal (?), or “Bill” taught us a bit about Turkish culture through traditional food in areas where locals lived and frequented, beginning with a Turkish breakfast that was amazing. As others have mentioned, you must come hungry! A highlight was experiencing the preparation of Turkish coffee, an art I was totally unaware of.. And wait until you try their ice cream! This was a laid-back tour that was much welcomed towards the end of a very busy cruise.

What a wonderful day we had with our guide Canat. We were picked up in a beautiful Mercedes van and driven for an amazing breakfast in a serene garden. Then in to Sirince, which is an adorable little village for a bit of fun shopping and Turkish pancakes, then a ceramic store then to Selcuk for lunch and baklava. It was just a fantastic day of food and sightseeing. Although planned for 8 hours we only had 6 hours but I wish I had the full 8! After 44 cruises this was one of my favorite ports!

The food was excellent. The village breakfast i think there were more than 20 pieces. ( butter, honey , varieties of jams and hot special bread. Also the ice cream and baklava was incredible. Ozan was our guide and he knows lots of things about Turkish food. Was an amazing food experience. If you love eating dont miss this tour.
