This was just an experience that I will not forget for a long time. An early start is the only way to do this experience and it was tough getting up the mountain as it is very much straight up and you do need to be prepared for this. You walk in total blackness with a touch to see the path. Once you are at the top, it is absolute magic with a feeling of over-worldliness, just spectacular. The beauty of seeing the sunrise was just picture perfect in the cool mountain air with steam coming off the Volcano, and there was just enough to warm you up. The local guides were just marvellous and helped me up the mountain which was just brilliant as I may have given up - it was tough going. Thanks so much to our two beautiful boys (one our guide who was just brilliant) who assisted, they pretty much pulled me up and kept me going. This was fantastic and should be a must.

Our group of 4 had an awesome time doing this trek. Eka, our driver, was punctual and great. Rama, our trekking guide, was wonderful as well. He was very knowledgeable and patient, giving us the option to take breaks at our own pace if needed. We hiked up before the sunrise and had spare time to enjoy the calmness before taking in the gorgeous sunrise with our breakfast of banana sandwiches and egg cooked by volcanic steam. He taught us many things about the local history and culture as well. Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience!

Great experience. Bring a coat. This is no easy hike for most as some may claim. It is cooooold at the top, the food may not be your cup of tea, so bring a snack. Absolutely gorgeous view, worth the hike!!!! They also have the option to take a scooter/ dirt bike most of the way up.

Awesome experience! Wayan picked us up from our hotel in Ubud at 2:30 AM in his late model SUV. The drive to Mount Batur took a little over an hour where we were promptly met by our trekking guide. Trip up the volcano is made in the dark with a flashlight and is more strenuous than we expected. That being said we made it to the top at 5:20, about an hour before sunrise. Looking back on it we should have hiked slower and taken more breaks so that we didn't have as much time on the top before sunrise. The top of the volcano is extremely windy and cold so I would recommend you bring a jacket, but luckily our guide had an extra jacket for my wife. Breakfast was basic, but adequate and the sunrise was beautiful. Our guide then took us down from the summit to see a deep hole with volcano steam and the resident wild monkeys who are actually friendlier than the monkeys at Ubud's Monkey Forest. From there we hiked back down to where we started. All in all the experience was unforgettable and we would highly recommend it!
