What an awesome hike. It was well organised, our guide was super considerate and made sure we were all well taken care of. The the guides and porters were super friendly. The energy from the guides was contagious and it made the experience more fun and authentic. They talked with us around the fire in the evening and made us laugh. It was surreal sleeping in the tents and drinking coffee on top of a mountain. The view was unreal! Loved every bit of this trek. The actual hike up wasn't too challenging for someone that is fit and if you have shoes with good grip. I found going down pretty easy too, but you got to be quick on your feet. It rained quite a bit, but there were a few shelters and always had coverings when it was time to eat and take a break. Certainly one of the best experiences during my travels around Indonesia.

What a great experience! Starting from our great humoured and experienced guide to the amazing group that I was paired with! Had a great stay the night beforehand in Senaru at a beautiful small hotel run by a lovely family and just re-built after the earthquake. Camped overnight overlooking the lake & watched the sunset and sunrise. A bag was even misplaced in senaru when I left for the gili islands and they were nice enough to bring the bag back for me to Bangsal to pick up! What a great experience and hospitality! A++!!!

On shared option. We were picked up from Bangsal harbour by our driver. We arrived an hour early and teambackpacker was able to accommodate this. The accommodation the night before the trek, exceeded expectations as we were ready for a dorm room with a fan. Instead we had a private room with aircon! The host was very friendly and welcoming. For a small fee we were chauffered to the waterfalls, to lunch and to a stick fighting competition. We were fully updated on the trek ahead, what to pack what time to be ready etc. We found the walk hard but our guide made it easier by walking at our Pace. The guides English and and knowledge was outstanding. Both him and the porter did a terrific job of getting us up there. I don't know how they make it look so easy! We had plenty of food for the walk and often couldn't finish it all. The food was lovely. The views by the crater are incredible and worth every part of the hard trek up. We paid a little extra and were dropped off at the airport (as this area is not included for drop off in shared option). Waiting for us was the host who had came to say goodbye and wish us luck with the rest of our trip.

Surely the path to reach the edge of the Rinjani crater is not easy, because even if brief, it covers a remarkable height difference. The path develops mostly in the jungle, then in the shade, and it is above all earthy, which affects the grip of your shoes and your fatigue, but which will go unnoticed in the eyes of the porters who will walk the path in flip-flops or barefoot. The view from up there is truly breathtaking. I recommend it to everybody!

I made the 2D1N trek to the Senaru Crater Rim with Team Backpacker (teambackpacker.com). The hike started at 01:30 and we arrived early in the morning after five hours hike just in time for sunrise the crater. The hike was a great experience and a very nice experience. The guide was friendly and had everything for me what you needed. On the way back we literally ran down, which was agreed, and reached the Senaru Village after three hours. I can recommend the trekking tour with Team Backpacker to everyone, as they are genuinely gracious and hospitable people, but I would plan on doing that for three days, as it is very exhausting.
