Buckingham Palace serves as the official London residence of His Majesty The King, and is one of the few remaining working royal palaces in the world today.
Each summer when the Palace is not being used in its official capacity, visitors can enjoy the 19 magnificent State Rooms that provide the setting for ceremonial occasions and official entertaining by members of the Royal Family.
Visitors to the Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace will see the White Drawing Room, perhaps the most beautiful of all the State Rooms with its spectacular crystal chandelier, the Music Room, where guests are presented on the occasion of a State Visit, and the Throne Room, which was the setting for the formal photographs following the wedding of Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales.

This is an excellent tour, avoiding the summer crowds (already sold out for 2024). Our guide Lynne, a long standing member of the Palace team, could not have been more informative & fun. Her knowledge was faultless but she delivered it in a light hearted, tongue in cheek style, so the 90 minute tour was never stiff or boring. The State Rooms are stunning & it’s a wonderful glimpse behind the scenes. You get to see the Grand Staircase, Throne Room & Ballroom, alongside several others. Photography isn’t permitted & of course, you can’t touch anything, but the tour was far less prohibitive than I'd expected, I didn’t feel closely policed, as is often the case in stately homes & museums. The current cost is £95 which includes a souvenir book & 20% off in the Palace shop.

Without doubt, one of the best things we have ever done as a family. Wonderful tour. Exceptional building and history. The children were as excited as the parents. I would encourage everyone who can to do this tour.

The Royal Mews was interesting and there's always things you find out about the Royals that you didn't know. I'm not a "horse" person so it was good to get a better understanding of the role the Royal Mews plays and to actually view the carriages was a bonus - I will now appreciate them more when I see them on the TV! The State Rooms were amazing - so full of history, the decor, the story behind certain pieces, the artwork some of which dates back 500 years! To view Camilla's coronation dress so closely, the intricate detail. An amazing experience and so glad I did this tour.

The Royal Mews portion of the tour was better than the Palace... We had a live person giving us the tour of the Royal mews, Francesca from Italy, and she was absolutely delightful; personable, knowledgably, interesting and funny... an excellent raconteur. The Palace portion of the tour was by audio guide; the narrator was tiresome and stuffy, devoid of any personality or interesting anecdotes. Also, the mechanism itself was cumbersome constantly having to figure out what room I was in and what button to push. I left Buckingham Palace disappointed and underwhelmed. If there is a tour where you can have a person giving the Palace tour, I would definitely go that route!
