Changing of the Guard

Elite soldiers from the military have been guarding English Kings and Queens since 1660. Known as the 'Household Division', these regiments are so devoted to their duty that they will famously not acknowledge, nor allow themselves to be distracted by the public. During the ceremony, immaculately turned out guards are accompanied by marching bands playing a rousing mix of military and contemporary music in a display of the sort of pomp and military ceremony that has made the British military famous around the world.

June 2022 sees the historic celebration of HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, including a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral.
To mark this unique event, the exhibition St Paul’s, the Monarch and the Changing World explores the grand ceremonial occasions held at the Cathedral to commemorate the Royal Jubilees of four British monarchs: George III, Victoria, George V and Elizabeth II.

We were able to see the Royal Carriage leaving Buckingham Palace. Our guide took a few extra minutes when she found out the carriage was coming and had us run down to see it.
