Overview

Hi, my name is Julia; I am an art historian, freelance researcher and a founder of NEJA's Art Walks, we are a bespoke provider of art and history related experiences in London (IG @nejasartwalks). I previously worked as a Collection Research Assistant at the Tate and I am now hosting one of the most successful Art Experiences in London.

Housed in the building of a former power station, Tate Modern is one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary art in the world. It ranks first in the list of London’s Top 10 attractions and fifth globally, hosting 6 million visitors a year.

At Tate Modern, we will look at some fabulous art from a fresh angle and try to experience it on a more personal level, without any preconceived ideas. Ask questions! Get excited! Let's talk about art in a way where no question is too big, or too small, or too right, or too wrong!

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Tate Modern, 53 Bankside, London SE1 9TG England

It is not uncommon to feel both intrigued and confused by a piece of contemporary art. Allow me to guide you through the galleries of Tate Modern on a curious inquiry into what we see, and hopefully, during the 2 hours that we spend together, you will acquire the skills of looking, seeing and talking about art. I would like to encourage you to trust your own eyes and instincts and think of art in front of you in a more personal way.

How did abstract art come about? Does the gender of the artists matter? What happened to sculpture in the 20th century? Is photography art? Who decided what is art and what isn’t and can art change the world? Do we have to like what we see in order to understand it and vice-versa? We will talk in-depth about all of these questions.

No prior art knowledge is required, everyone is welcome. Great for solo travellers, couples, families, groups of any kind, teams and team-building exercises.

Julia was a wonderful guide. Engaging, interactive, and an excellent teacher who developed our skills and knowledge as we toured. This was a great experience and taught me more about how to view subjects and gain the artist's perspective. I would recommend to everyone.

My husband and I loved our small group tour of the Tate Modern with our guide, Julia. Her knowledge, enthusiasm, and sense of humor made for the most enjoyable experience. This museum is HUGE. We knew we wouldn't be able to see everything, so we made the right choice by choosing Julia to show us highlights and really get us to think about and appreciate the art we did see. 10 out of 10 recommend!

I highly recommend Julia, an art historian, as your tour guide to Tate Modern. She is very knowledgeable in the art there. And she encourages us to view and interpret the art piece on our own first, next she asks our views on it and then she explains how to interpret and appreciate the art piece in historical context. This makes the tour very fun, interactive and memorable. And we were extremely lucky that the group was small so we had plenty of opportunities to ask questions, which is great value for money. Julia discussed many art pieces and my favourite is 'Bottle of Rum and newspaper' by the artist Juan Gris. Overall, I enjoyed this wonderful tour very much, learnt a lot about modern art, and would highly recommend it to others interested in visiting the Tate Modern.
