Nestled in the High Atlas Mountains, just a 150 km away from Marrakech, the Cascades d'Ouzoud is one of the most remarkable of the natural wonders to be found in the Atlas mountains. These 110-meter waterfalls, the highest in North Africa, are inspiring in their majesty. This day trip departing from Marrakech will allow you to explore the paths to the bottom of the falls take you through the groves of olive trees and offer many fine views of the falls and their surroundings. Follow other paths to the top of the falls where you can see many grain mills (from which the falls get their name), as well as an astonishing view looking down on the cascades.

This was a very unpleasant travel experience for us. We had booked for a small group tour for 4 people as a family. Unfortunately a mini bus turned up with 28 other people in it and as we were the last to be picked up there were only three seats available at different spots which meant my 5 year old had to sit separately without her parents and my husband had to use a very uncomfortable make do seat in the front next to the driver. As it was Eid, the driver said he could do nothing about it but promised to put us on another mini van on our way back. However we were not allowed to board the mini van until all passengers had boarded and the situation was the same where 4 of us were left to occupy three seats! The only consolation of this whole trip was the waterfall. Therefore I would say if people can arrange their own transport to the waterfall, please do so rather than use this agency. The trek to the waterfalls can be done without a guide too.

Overall is a relatively easy walk, less than 5k round trip. Back up there are many small stairs but donkeys available if needed. We had an amazing tour guide who's kindness showed through him. Lunch was yummy, boat ride was fun, and monkeys were a treat. Only wish we could have chosen to swim instead of go to lunch and the AC broke on the bus ride back, but we survived.

Overall a great trip, but I think the advertising should provide a warning for people with walking difficulties of the very challenging descent to the base of the waterfall. My husband managed but only with assistance from our wonderful guide, Hamid. Humid gets 5 stars *****
