We booked this tour with Joyful Holidays through La Vacanza Travel having read all the previous excellent reviews. Ms Sonia founder of Joyful Holidays met us at our hotel on the day of departure and was available should we have needed to contact her at any time during the tour. All the arrangements prior to starting the tour were made with ease and any emails were replied to without any delay whatsoever. Our driver Mr Shiva was excellent and we really enjoyed travelling with him. He was a valuable source of information and did his very best to make the trip as enjoyable as possible for us. We were met with excellent guides at each location who made the tours in Delhi Agra and Jaipur really informative and enjoyable. It was invaluable having a private guide to make the most of our time in the different locations.

With only 1 week for our first trip to India, Joyful holidays, not only made it all so easy, but ensured we were very well looked after in every way and on every step of the journey through the golden triangle. We were met personally by Ms Sonia who gave us a wonderful explanation of her company and ethos. The itinerary was well documented and her contact details provided should we need to get in touch. We had an excellent driver, Mr Shiva for the whole 5 days. He was very polite, prompt and took good care of us at all times, providing us with snacks and water when necessary. All accommodation was excellent as were all private guides in each location. I would highly recommend Joyful Holidays to anyone considering a trip to India. It’s been a wonderful trip and excellent value for money.

Joyful Holidays was a lucky find! Believe the glowing reviews you read. Sonia designed a tour to our exact specifications. Our driver, Mr. Ram Kumar, was with us the entire time from airport pick-up in Jaipur to late night drop-off at Indira Gandhi Airport. He is an expert driver and along the way answered many questions for us and told stories of his own experiences. We would return from a site visit to find him always waiting with a smile and a few snacks/cold drinks waiting for us. He went above and beyond for us: taking us to the observation area to see the Taj Mahal at sunset after driving us for a full day, and helping us out at Ranthambore when our safari vehicle didn’t show up—more on that in a bit. The hotels Sonia chose for us were excellent—spotlessly clean and comfortable with attentive staff and good options in the restaurants. I cannot eat spicy food and the kitchens prepared food to my precise requests. We even crashed a wedding at the Courtyard Agra, at the invitation of Mr. Mohit. Never have we met more warm hospitable people. They welcomed two tired Americans wearing jeans to their lovely event. I only hope we didn’t end up in their photos or videos! We had outstanding local guides in Jaipur, Agra and Delhi, each gentleman a specialist in his own region. They couldn’t do enough for us and it was heartwarming to see their passion and eagerness to share with us. Upon our request we stopped at a carpet workshop at our first location (Jaipur) and ended up purchasing a beautiful one which arrived at our home via FedEx a few days after we returned home. That extra time also ended up being very lucky because by the time we got to the Amer Fort the crowds had disappeared, the sun was setting and the lights were coming on. It was staggeringly beautiful. Another late night for our driver, navigating the road down to the city in the dark. There are no words to describe the first sighting of the Taj Mahal at sunrise. No photo will ever do it justice and you have to see it for yourself. There were so many other memorable sights that we packed into a few amazing days. I am reeling as I re-live it. Because we started our tour in Jaipur we did not have a chance to meet Sonia at the beginning. The plan was to meet up in Delhi. She had a family emergency out of town so we didn’t meet her until our last evening before our very early morning flight from Indira Gandhi. She invited us to her home for chai and snacks, introduced us to her family and told us about herself and her journey to her own company. What an inspiring story. I am happy to give Sonia and Joyful Holidays a 5* glowing review because of all the above reasons and because our tour was designed exactly to our specifications, including Ranthambore. I was very excited about it. However I have to inject a negative note. Our visit to Ranthambore was disastrous and a waste of time on what was a very short holiday. I do not recommend it unless you have a lot of time and a high tolerance for frustration. We did not see any tigers at all—but that is not the reason we are so disappointed. We now understand the probability that you will not. We did not know that prior to planning the trip. When we arrived at the Tigress Lodge after a long drive we were rushed through lunch to be ready for an afternoon safari drive. We knew (and were looking forward to) we would be sharing a vehicle with other guests. However there was no vehicle for us. We watched numerous vehicles depart, many with available space, while we stood there. Finally our driver came and drove us down the bumpy road to the main (also bumpy) road where we watched about 15 vehicles passing us by, all with available space. After about half an hour of wondering if we were ever going to get to the park Ram drove us to another location where we joined a family of three and headed off down the bumpy road, through villages and towns, passing by many entrances to Ranthambore. AN HOUR AND A HALF DRIVE LATER we entered Station #9, the furthest away from the Tigress Lodge where we were staying. Along the way the guide spoke very little and when he did it was in Hindi for the benefit of the family we joined. They are lovely people who all spoke excellent English, in fact the little bit of the tour that we got was via translation from the father of the family. It was the guide who spoke no English. After the hour and a half ride we spent a bit over an hour in the park seeing a few deer and birds and then headed back out for the same torturous hour and a half trip back to the Tigress. In other words a total waste of time. At our insistence the local tour operator guaranteed us an early morning pick up for the second safari drive. Indeed a vehicle did show up (as did Ram, even though he was supposed to have time off, just in case we were stood up again). This time we went to station #8, marginally closer, with a guide who also barely spoke and knew about 20 English words. Our companions were a couple from the UK who were throughly disgusted by the experience. Since it was marginally better than the previous day, at least we were picked up and we didn’t have to go QUITE so far, it was a slightly better experience but still no tigers and no narration about the park. I will give the guide and driver credit for trying to find a tiger for us. It just wasn’t happening. And that was our “tiger safari”. It shouldn’t be marketed that way. If you have been on safari in Africa, in no way does this experience resemble. From our African safaris—the guides speak excellent English and give LOTS of information about the park and the wildlife. You might not see every species but you will certainly see many. My advice: use Joyful Holidays if you want a custom designed private tour in India. If your time is short stick to the Golden Triangle. I wish we had.

I have been wanting to visit India for years and finally decided to go to coincide with the World Cup cricket. As part of the trip I wanted to see the attractions of the golden triangle as everyone does. I found Sonia's Joyful Holidays company online and booked up. All throughout the build up to the trip Sonia was helpful in answering all my questions and when I met her at the start of the trip she told me her background and how she managed to educate herself with the help of her parents and ultimately start a business. This, as well as the fact that she now trains up other young women into the business was very inspiring. The trip itself was great. I stayed in some lovely hotels, especially the one in Ranthambore. My driver Dev was a very polite young man who drove me everywhere and was always helpful and good company. The guides that were provided at each destination were all very informative and were quite humorous just for good measure. All in all I had a great few days on what was a jam-packed tour and really grateful for the experience.
