Wilma will welcome you with a warm smile into her beautiful home and will show you the the little garden where she grows her own herbs. As you sip a welcome drink,Wilma will introduce you to Mangalorean cooking, which features an amalgamation of spices combined with fresh coconut or coconut milk and fresh fish, meat and vegetables. A speciality from Wilma’s kitchen are Mangalorean-style breads, which are typically made from rice flour.
During your one-hour cooking demonstration, Wilma will show you the art of making appams (traditional South Indian rice crepes made with fermented rice batter) or sannas (small, fluffy steamed cakes) with a chicken stew and a seasonal vegetable curry. Please note that this is a cooking demonstration, not a hands-on cooking class. Then join Wilma at the dining table to taste a variety of Mangalorean favorites, some of which may have been prepared in advance. End your meal together on a sweet note with kheer (rice pudding) or gajar halwa (carrot pudding).
Please note, this is not a professional cooking experience, rather this is an opportunity is a visit into an authentic, local home to meet a local person and share the culture and cuisine together.
