First of all, a massive thanks to our guide Jaun, and Sanatan for keeping in touch before the tour, checking we were all good on meeting times, etc (even though we hadn't asked for any extra info!). It made everything smooth, and we knew we could contact him if we had any questions in advance. Jaun picked us up and took us to the slum by tuktuk, A really friendly guy, with excellent English. He took us round the slum, pointing things out, explaining things, introducing us to locals, and answering any questions. The one thing that stuck out was the love and respect the people living in the slum clearly felt for Juan and Santan (who we met later). They obviously really appreciate the contribution they make in terms of money from tours, but mostly in the volunteering they do at the slum's school. Indeed, we got to visit the school, and chat to the incredibly beautiful kids, and were even invited into the home of one of them, where her relatives served us tea and snacks, and made us really at home, very humbling. We also got to sample food from the slum stalls and stores. Santan and Jaun, you guys are amazing! Keep up the excellent work you do, please! Honestly, before the tour I wasn't sure if it was 'cool' or 'appropriate' to take a tour of a community living in poverty, but I'm glad I went. A must, if you visit Delhi.
