Overview

Ever interested in how people survive and live their life in slums? This walk is organised by Pete For India Travel to support a sister concern NGO and registered non-profit organization called PETE India (Providing Education to Everyone).80% of the proceeds go to support our projects. Participants will accompany a guide through the maze of small streets and alleys slum in West Delhi for 2 hours. He will show you how millions of people live their lives in the slums of Delhi each day. While in the slum, you'll have the opportunity (if you wish) to have traditional tea with a family during which they can share their personal story of survival and life in the slums. You will visit the 5 Centres that Money from the tour directly support and meet the students and teachers. The aim of this walk is not to "visit" or make poverty a "tourist attraction", but is to exchange experiences with people, allowing the locals a rare opportunity to interact with foreigners if they wish.

The the pleasure to do a tour with Peter for India Travel. It was such a lovely experience and my guide Shiva showed me around Delhi for an entire day including showing me the Slums of Delhi. Thank you Shiva for the amazing day and sharing your knowledge and wisdom of India’s culture. You are a beautiful soul and I am grateful for calling you my friend. Hope to stay in touch.

We were concerned that was just morbid fascination on our part, but this was definitely not the case. It was a very uplifting and humbling experience. It is well organised and completely safe. Sunny, our tour guide, was a perfect host and explained the temples and the background to the colony very well, in perfect English. For such a young man, he has our complete admiration for the work he does to support the community. Anyone who gets the opportunity should do this tour, particularly if you are fortunate enough to have Sunny as your guide. Thankyou for one of the best tours we have ever made!

What a wonderful morning! A great way to actually understand the political and social factors surrounding the slums. I really enjoyed my time and got to speak to many local people who gave me their insight on what life in the slum really is like. I left feels very humbled - I joined this tour for education and I can say that I really did learn a lot. Really worth the visit - very non-intrusive also. Lot's of respect for the volunteers and guides thar guve their time to help in these areas.

Such a unique and special experience. It was great spending the afternoon with Sunny. The visit to the volunteer led school they’d set up in the slum, and meeting the other volunteer teachers, was a particular highlight. Highly recommend this tour!

Our guide, Sunny, was so friendly and knowledgeable as he showed us around his own community and shared about his life living in the Sangam Colony. I was concerned our presence may be intrusive, but felt very welcomed by the residents and the children getting heaps of handshakes and smiles and felt very safe the entire time. An unforgettable experience for all the right reasons!
