Overview

Enjoy a once in a lifetime, close encounter with Humpback Whales! (June- November).
Join us and our marine biologist on our Premier Whale Watching Cruise. Depart from Ballina’s Richmond River and enter the stunning waters of Cape Byron Marine Park. Encounter astonishing Humpback Whales in their natural habitat as they migrate past the iconic coastline between Byron Bay and Ballina. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery while listening to live Humpback Whale song using our specialised underwater hydrophone. Our friendly Marine Biologist will share in-depth knowledge of the area, local points of interest & encounters we experience within Byron’s Marine Park. The migration of whales is a significant feat & a spectacular event to witness as they frolic & breach. At more than 2,500-kms, this is considered one of the longest migrations in the animal kingdom.

Itinerary

Humpback Whales are seen along the coast between Ballina and Cape Byron. Where we visit is dependant on where the whales are. Our Marine Biologist guide will provide fascinating commentary as you take in the breathtaking views and whale encounters. It is also likely to spot other marine and bird life during the tour, such as our resident pods of dolphins. We are so sure you will spot a whale that we offer a whale guarantee, or return for a free trip!

Please meet on the Lance Ferris Wharf directly in front of the Wharf Bar & Restaurant, 12-24 Fawcett St, Ballina (if Brunswick Heads is closer for you, please select our other Whale Watching listing departing from Brunswick Heads). Someone will come to collect you and take you down to the vessel where lifejackets & waterproof ponchos will be supplied.
We will conduct a short safety briefing before we travel briefly along Ballina's Richmond River and head out into the Cape Byron Marine Park on our Premier Whale Watching adventure.

Make sure you put this snorkeling trip to Julian Rocks "Nguthungulli" Nature Reserve on your Byron Bay bucket list. An exciting 20-minute boat ride with Out Of The Blue takes you to the dive spot where you will spend the next hour immersed in a unique ocean ecosystem and amazing underwater world. We swam with turtles, spied sharks (the cute kind) including the beautiful Leopard Shark and floated above a majestic white-spotted Eagle Ray while endless schools of curious fish circled us in a kaleidoscope of colours and shapes. Just when we thought the adventure was over and were headed for shore, we passed a pod of playful dolphins back-dropped by the lofty peak of Mount Warning ringed in cloud. With a professional skipper and marine biologists on board, the friendly and knowledgeable crew from Out Of The Blue Adventures make this a truly magic Byron experience. Keep up the incredible work!

Loved the boat, Out of the Blue Team were enthusiastic guides and the snorkelling was a great way to spend time in a beautiful marine reserve. We took photos with our eyes - sorry can’t share !! Beautiful marine life - iridescent colours - best way to spend time in this pocket of the world.

Was very impressed with the helpfulness of the staff, due to my age and limited walking abilities. The cruise was lovely. Really enjoyed myself

Amazing experience ! The staff were knowledgeable and the visibility was perfect Saw hundreds of fish, leopard sharks and turtles. It was quite choppy on the boat and in the water so seasickness tablets would have been a good idea !
