Overview

This activity concept is aimed at solo travellers (or friends) of any age who want to meet people and meet locals to see what Oxford life is like. This is an activity idea rather than actually a tour.

Myself or one of my colleague guides will take turns to host walk and talk social activity followed by invitation to join us and other participants for a drink or to eat at a venue wherever the walk ends. I have listed some suggestions of what the guided walk might be but it won't be fixed which walk as it will depend on the weather, the time of year and how many persons turn up. All the tours will be walking distance from the city centre meeting point.

These events will require a minimum of 4 persons total to have booked by 9.30am same day as the events, for the event to go ahead. If these minimum numbers have not been met, you will be refunded in full on the same day and notified that morning of the cancellation. Group sizes will be kept under 15 persons but likely will be smaller.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Pass By: Port Meadow, Walton Well Road, Oxford OX2 6ED England

One of the most popular local walking routes which we might follow on longer evenings in the year, is this walk from town centre to the Port Meadow, where there are also a range of lovely pubs nearby. This walk takes under an hour from city centre.

Pass By: Iffley Village, Church Road, Oxford England

Iffley village is about one hour walk from Oxford city and it's a quaint village with thatched cottages and a Normal church plus some pubs. This walk is along the tow path by the Thames and you can always catch a taxi or bus back to the city or walk back.

Pass By: Oxford University Parks, South Lodge South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3RF England

This route option for a walk is located about 20 minutes walk from start point and the University parks are extensive.

Pass By: Radcliffe Camera, Radcliffe Square, Oxford OX1 4AJ England

In case of bad weather, we can do a much reduced short walk around the city sights and then just head to one of many pubs or cafe or bar close by.

Pass By: Magdalen College, High Street, Oxford OX1 4AU England

This is actually my favourite college in Oxford as I love gardens. In longer days of the year, the college stays open until 6pm or even later. If the venue is already closed, we can instead of walking around its grounds, walk to the college in 20 minutes and then head off to Cowley road to go find one of East Oxford Cowley road's many international places to eat out or get a drink.

The other option is to hire a boat and go punting or rowing on the river from Magdalen boat house, next to the college.

Pass By: Love Jericho, 30 Walton Street, Oxford OX2 6AA England

Jericho is an arty fancy upmarket suburb near the city centre which is fun to walk along and find somewhere in under half hour walk from city centre to stop and eat or drink at. Lots of cafes and bars here and this is where the band Radiohead made their name.

Pass By: Christ Church, St. Aldates, Oxford OX1 1DP England

Christ church meadows is free access and open to walk into during summer evenings until dusk. It is therefore a good place for a short walk lasting as little as half hour from city centre and then there is a pub called the Head of the River which looks onto the rowers passing by. You can alternatively grab a picnic and go sit down by the college boat houses.

Pass By: Blenheim Palace, Woodstock OX20 1PP England

Blenheim palace is not actually located in Oxford but the Stagecoach buses run every half hour from city centre and it can be reached within 45 minutes by bus. The palace actually has part of its grounds free access, if you know the right gate to enter. Meanwhile, the palace is located by Woodstock village which is also lovely to walk about and then head to the pub.

Our guide, Aledstair, was punctual, loaded with fascinating history and current stories , great fun and very mindful of the individual needs of the group. Walking the central area and biking the Thames with a complementary scenic outdoor pub stop made this delightful outing the perfect way to spend our day in Oxford.

Mary our guide for the walking tour did a wonderful job. As a student herself she was very knowledgeable about the colleges and the city of Oxford. Highly recommend this tour. Andrew our guide for the bicycle tour also did an excellent job. We learned a lot about Sinclair Lewis. Would be nice for an upgrade on the bikes.

We did the walking tour of the city with Monica followed by the cycling tour with Andrew. Both were amazing! The walking tour was interesting and informative, and the cycling tour was an amazing experience riding through town, through a field with cows and horses, with stops at a beautiful very old church and at a pub for a drink before heading back. Would definitely recommend!

Started our day with the 12:30 walking tour with Alasdair, entertaining, engaging and very knowledgeable! He made it personal by learning & using our names! We finished our day with a 2:30 bike tour with Andrew, seeing mores sites as we rode out of town to the picturesque village of Binsey, even enjoying a pint at the local pub! Andrew made this beautiful day even better, always willing to tailor our sites to what we wanted to see & was very patient as my photographer husband stopped (frequently) for photos. He knew the area well & could tell he really enjoyed what he was doing. These tours where worth every penny & I would not hesitate to recommend them to any one! Thank you for a lovely Oxford experience!
