The boat ride was really pleasant. Its a fun way to see Oxford from a different perspective. The boat driver was really nice and we had a great conversation about some Oxford traditions and celebrations. I enjoyed the dinner at the Folly. It would be difficult to pick a favorite dish but if pressed I would say that the fennel ice cream with peppercorns was the best. The server explained each dish and the wine pairing with it. The setting and decor was less stuffy than I was expecting for a tasting menu. Highly recommend!
Took an evening rivers cruise, in a smaller type cruise boat, followed by a six course tasting menu at The Folly, Oxford. What a pleasure, the boat is a perfect size with pull down sides if the weather turns poor, and our skipper Evie was a delight and very informative. Lovely boat trip and fabulous food to finish.
Boat ride was excellent, even though we set off late. A testing menu is a marque of an excellent restaurant. Aside from the quality of food, everything else about the dining experience was underwhelming. When we arrived food started arriving with no offer to purchase drinks. We had to hunt the waiter down after they second course. Then, both drinks on the order arrived incorrect. To top if off, I had to argue briefly the difference between two cocktails being ' the same thing anyway', and a white wine order arriving as red. The theme continued as a waitress dipped her clothing not once, but twice in our food as she served it. Despite being warned the first time. Finally, counting a sorbet as a course left us a little short changed. If everything else was perfect, this would have been excusable. But it was far from.
