We really enjoyed our guide’s positive approach and swing the beautiful nature of South Africa! The Caves and ostrich’s farm was so much fun and the drive is gorgeous.

My friend and I joined this five-day Garden Route tour guided by Stafford, and we had the absolute best time! We didn't really know what to expect going in; my friend had been to South Africa only once prior as a child, and I had never been before. We arrived in Port Elizabeth, were picked up by Stafford, and embarked on our five-day journey towards Cape Town. We started in Jeffrey's Bay where we spent the entire first day. To be honest, Jeffrey's Bay was our least favorite part of the trip. The town was a little empty, the weather wasn't great, and there really wasn't a whole lot to do. However, our dinner in Jeffrey's Bay (restaurant called Kitchen Windows) ended up being one of the highlights of our entire trip. Once we left Jeffrey's Bay, everything started to go uphill. We spent the next day hiking to the Suspension Bridge, which was beautiful and a nice little workout. The scenery in that part of the trip was just breathtaking. We then stayed overnight in a lovely town called Sedgefield, which we absolutely adored. The next day we traveled to Oudtshoorn where we saw the Cango Caves and went to an Ostrich farm--also a lovely town with great activities surrounding it. The next day, we departed Oudtshoorn and embarked on a rather long drive to Cape Agulhas. The drive was incredibly scenic, and Agulhas is a lovely little town on the southern-most tip of the African Continent. We had an amazing dinner at Gavin's Trattoria. On our final day, we started our coastal drive towards Cape Town, and we stopped on the way to see some penguins and also a good spot for whale watching (we did not see any whales, as it is not whale season currently). We then arrived to Cape Town and went our separate ways. Overall, the only thing I would change about the tour is to allow a bit of time to explore Port Elizabeth on the first day rather than spending an entire day in Jeffrey's Bay. Other than that, everything was wonderful, and it was a pleasure having Stafford as our guide. I could not recommend this tour and Stafford enough! Wonderful experience!

My friend and signed up for this tour relatively last minute and went in with no expectations. We left both with unbelievable memories that will last us a lifetime! Our guide, Stafford, was incredible-- professional, knowledgeable, and most of all, very personable. The small group atmosphere made for a memorable journey down the Garden Route that was able to be catered to our likes and interests along the way. The only complaint I have about this trip was that we only stayed for one night in each place! I am now dying to come back and do it again. This is a great intro trip for those who are new to South Africa (and those who are like me and are afraid to drive "on the wrong side of the road". We signed up for the four star accommodations and they were all great and places I would happily stay again.

Wow. Just finished our trip and looking back we cannot believe what we saw, experienced and learned with John over the 5 days we spent. Travelling with John and Afroventures was the best decision we made for our vacation. From the start in Port Elizabeth right through to drop off in Cape Town John made us feel welcome, accommodated all of our wishes and whims, taught us constantly about South Africa, the Cape, and not just about the land and locations, but also about the people. We learned so much and saw more than we dreamed. Starting in Jeffrey’s Bay, after a long but memorable dinner at the famous Nina’s Restaurant we woke up and experienced the Backpackers and their hospitality through surfing lessons. Auntie C, and Stephano gave our family surfing lessons and memories and laughs that will last a lifetime. No Shaun Tomson or Wendy Botha’s in our family. I am sure Stephano is still laughing at me. We moved on to visit Tsitsikamma National Park with breathtaking views of the Stormy River mouth and a leisurely hike through and across the suspension bridges then on to Bloukrans. Although we didn’t do the jump, seeing and experiencing Bloukrans left us speechless. A nice stay in beautiful Knysna, and a tour and hike along the beaches to experience the fossilized dunes at Sedgefield which included breath taking views and more learning as we collected and inspected Shark pods known as Mermaid Purses that washed up on the beach. A little unnerving to see the number of pods which translates to the number of sharks sharing the water we swam in everyday. We moved on to Oudtshoorn and the amazing Cango Caves. Some of our family braved the extent of this awesome Natural wonder by crawling through the entire cave complex. While in Oudtshoorn a visit with Ostriches is a must and this did not disappoint. On to Cape Agulhas. A brief stop in Struisbaai to see the Stingrays (wow!) and off to one of the most visually stunning places we visited. Waking up to the southern most place in Africa was a moment to remember, what a view. Off to experience the Sharks. We had the opportunity to get in a cage in the ocean near Gansbaai to swim with these wonderful creatures… 7 female Bronze Whalers amazed us for over an hour, with the largest being over 10 feet, we were truly amazed. No Great White sharks but regardless we were amazed. Despite all that we did over the 5 days, some of the most memorable parts of the trip happened during the many trips and travels to our stops. John’s guiding through the most beautiful roads, passes and places will never be forgotten. Seeing the Hop Gardens in Oudtshoorn, the Mountain Pass outside or George, the Farm Store and lunch spot outside of Port Elizabeth, the best Milkshake and lunch in Barrydale, the drive into Capetown along the Whale Coast Route. We did and saw things in South Africa that we know many South Africans haven’t experienced. I cannot commend, applaud and recommend Afroventures and John enough for this experience. We would definitely recommend this to anyone who is not looking for the typical hotel trip to South Africa.
