Popular tour to the scenic and panoramic southwest corner of the island!

The scenic drive along the west coast leads to the beautiful South West corner. Pass Le Morne, La Prairie and stop at the stunning viewpoint at Maconde.
At Baie du Cap, we drive through the hills of Chamarel to the 90m high Chamarel Waterfalls and the Seven-Coloured Earth. At La Rhumerie de Chamarel taste some of the best rums in the world (tasting included). After lunch continue uphill to the viewpoint over the Black River Gorges, home to most of the island’s endemic flora and fauna. Continue to the sacred lake of Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao) and the Trou aux Cerfs volcanic crater with a 360o view over the island. Admire stunning models of historical sailing ships at ‘Voiliers de l’Ocean’ before returning to your hotel.

  • Comprehensive tour by bus/coach
  • Free hotel pickup and drop-off included
  • Informative, friendly and professional guide

Your day starts with pickup from your hotel on the north, east, west or south side of the island. Enjoy the scenery and learn about the area’s flora, fauna and history from your guide as you drive along the west coast to the Rivière Noire District. Pass through Le Morne, La Prairie and Macondé before curving back into the mountains to the picturesque village of Chamarel.

Visit Chamarel Waterfall, the tallest waterfall in Mauritius that plunges more than 328 feet (100 meters) against a scenic backdrop of forests and mountains. Continue to the Seven Coloured Earth, a striking geological formation created by volcanic rocks that cooled at different temperatures. Admire the exposed hillsides glowing with red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow colors.

Next, head to La Rhumerie de Chamarel distillery to sample local rum. Follow your tasting with a delicious, traditional 3-course lunch served with Chamarel coffee and water at a local restaurant.

After lunch, continue up to a high plateau and reach a viewpoint over Black River Gorges National Park. Listen as your guide points out the variety of flora and fauna thriving below.

In the district of Savanne, visit the secluded Grand Bassin lake, an important place of worship for Mauritian Hindus. Continue on to the Trou aux Cerfs, a huge volcanic crater formed millions of years ago. From here you’ll enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the island before you head to see the Shop of Ship Model.

The art of ship modeling was brought to Mauritius by various sailors who visited this island. Le Port’s eye for detail and quality has many customers visiting them from around the world. Their craftsmen are adept in the art of miniaturization and the techniques of replica work. At times it requires more than six months for a craftsman to produce a particular model. They also create half models and replicas.

Your tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in the evening.

Our guide was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and always provided us with a little history lesson about the area we were in, any landmarks or famous buildings we passed by etc. while the driver was professional and drove within the speed limit. I would highly recommend!

The well organised trip with our german speaking tour guide Gabriella was a nearly perfect day. The lunch at Chamarel was tasty and we had enough time at every station to enjoy the view, go for a walk and take loads of photos. Gabriella was a nice young woman who told us details of the inhabitants of Mauritius and some interesting facts about languages, culture, religions and local food.
To sum up, we think that this tour was the best one of our whole stay in Mauritius.

Excellent day out which we enjoyed very much. It was a full day but worth seeing other parts of the island. Natalie our guide was very knowledgeable and we were a small group. The driver was also very good. I booked the trip the day before on my iPhone via the app and everything went smoothly.
Lunch was good and included in the price.
I would recommend this trip but remember to take mosquito repellent with you to the Waterfall. This is the only place of the whole week I was bitten!
