Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Eau Bleue Reservoir, Mauritius

Our first stop will be at Eau Bleu Waterfall located on the central plateau of the Island. Relish the curious effects the light plays on your eyes, giving the body of water a blue like appearance. The azure colours coupled with the calm and soothing sounds of the waterfall, gives this ‘secret’ little pocket of nature a near heaven like atmosphere.

Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Pont Naturel, Coastal Route Le Souffleur, Mauritius

Translating into “Natural Bridge”, Pont Naturel is not such a well-known attraction. This only plays into your favour as you will be able to enjoy this experience with little to no disturbance, and trust us when we say this is not an experience anyone with a sane mind would want to miss.

Found on the southern coast of Mauritius, Pont Naturel is a beautiful beach, but with a twist. This beach is not about white sand and calm blue lagoons but rather about rocks and extremely rough waves. The main attraction of the beach is a bridge which might appear man made but has been formed through years of huge waves beating on the volcanic rocks. Sit back and enjoy the view of the rough sea striking this magnificent natural formation surrounded by only the noise of the sea and barely any disruption.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Le Souffleur, Sud Est, Mauritius

Based in the Savannah Sugar Estate in the south, Le Souffleur is yet another amazing natural phenomenon occurring on the southern coast of the island. When the seas are rough and the waves extremely strong, they crash into the rock formation at “Le Souffleur” and pass through tiny holes from which they emerge with extreme force as the water rises to heights up to 20 m.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Amma Tookay Temple, Riche Bois, Britannia, Camp Diable, Mauritius

Burrowed in the village of Camp Diable, stands erected one of the most beautiful temples of the island. Legend goes that, during the 19th century, when all rocks were being removed at that spot for the plantation of sugarcane, one specific rock proved impossible to lift or even break, despite also the owner trying different methods. The locals then started to deem the rock holy and began to worship it. Some say that the rock was a statue of Amma Tookay. The Tookay temple was then built around this rock.

Standing several meters tall with impressive sculptures of vibrant colours, Tookay temple is a favourite of many tourists as well as locals.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Andrea Lodges, St Aubin, Mauritius

Enjoy lunch with a view at Andrea Lodge

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Gris Gris Beach, South Coast, Souillac, Mauritius

The southernmost beach of Mauritius, Gris Gris, is far from the habitual white sandy ones with a calm blue lagoon but is still magnificent albeit in a different manner. Instead of white sand, you are greeted by a rocky cliff which descends steeply into the rough sea where huge waves are king. The absence of coral reef in this part of the island means the ocean waves reach the coast undisturbed, with all their might.

Take a stroll along the cliffs as you watch the waves crash and send showers of water. On the furthest right end of the cliff, you are offered a panoramic view of the cliffs and waves dancing violently off them.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Souillac, Souillac

Visit La Roche Qui Pleure

Literally translated into the weeping rock, La Roche Qui Pleure is an extremely popular natural phenomenon which occurs along the coast of Gris Gris. Easily accessible through a path cutting through lush greenery and numerous signs pointing the way, this area is frequently visited by a large number of tourists who are curious of observing this optical illusion.

The lack of coral reefs resulting in the strong oceanic waves reaching the coast undisturbed is the root cause of this phenomenon. The huge waves hit the rocks in such a way, that the remaining water flowing down produces a tear like apparition on the rocks, hence the name ‘Weeping Rock’.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Rochester Falls, Savanne River, Souillac, Mauritius

Discover the spectacular 33-foot waterfall with multiple cascading falls hidden in the region of Souillac. The falls draws its charm into the Savanne River and with its magnificent rectangular rock, Rochester is famed as the widest fall on the island at an elevation of 152 meters above sea level.

When the currents are favourable, you might also find some daring locals jumping off the 10 m cliff into the water, but bear in mind that they are experts and know the waterfalls inside out.

The best feature of Rochester Falls is the ability for visitors to experience the falls from the front, bottom, side, and top! Refresh yourself with cool coconut water and unwind in the idyllic atmosphere surrounded with greenery and sugar cane plantation. If you are lucky, you will be amazed to see the locals dive into the water.

This was a fantastic tour of the south of the island. We wanted authentic Mauritius and we got it in abundance. Avi picked us up and took us to Curepipe for breakfast. We sat inside this family run snack bar and enjoyed mouth watering roti and Dholl puri washed down with homemade alouda everything was made by the family and we were shown how they did it. We then went to see the dormant volcano and onto the ship factory via a duty free shopping mall selling absolutely everything. We then drove off road through sugar canes to see an old sugar cane chimney and Avi explained how it would have worked when it was functioning. We stopped at a natural bridge at Ponte Naturel. On to a Tamil Temple nestling amongst the sugar cane field. We walk over an old railway bridge with the highest drop in Mauritius and then on to the beautiful beach of Gris Gris and it’s wild coast. Stopping for lunch at a family run curry and noodle bar we then went off road winding through farmland to the magnificent Rocester Falls. We climbed down a small path and swam in the bottom of the falls with many locals. Avi then drove us along one of the most scenic roads in Mauritius following the south coast to arrive at the stunningly beautiful La Prairie beach. On our way back home we stopped at two view points showing all of the south coast. Avi is a wonderful host and his knowledge of old and new Mauritius is exceptional.

Avi was the best host, he was friendly, knowledgeable and went beyond our expectations. The name of the tour is perfect, we experienced fantastic places off the beaten track were it only seemed locals went too. Avi being local was able to introduce us too locals everywhere we went which made the experience more authentic and special. Our girls are 13 and 14 and he involved them throughout

Hidden treasures for sure. What this tour does not say is that you also get hidden tastes of Mauritius. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. We got to see beaches, waterfalls, nature trails, fed the giant tortoises, visit the cashmere factory and walk along the tallest bridge to name a few. You will not regret doing this one. The temple visit was one of my favorite sites and all this was done on a Sunday. Amazing!!!!

Off reloading to waterfalls and vistas not on a gps, traveling through the “roads” inside sugar cane fields. Our lovely guides also accommodated our request of visiting a local food market for spices. And eating some delicious street food. Lovely day. Thank you!

We had a fantastic day with Avi, who showed us the hidden treasures of Mauritius in a nice and comfy SUV. We visited a lot of sites like the Rochester waterfall, the very nice Chamarel rum destillery (unlimited rum tasting! :)) and restaurant. We also enjoyed the wild side of Mauritian coasts and ended the day with the sunset on a stunning beach. Avi is a very experienced and knowledgeable guide. We got a lot of background information, which you do not get when you are travelling with a bigger group. Also the tour was tailored to our whishes, which was very unique as well. We always felt safe and in good hands with Avi and can fully recommend this tour if you want to have a special experience and good memories from Mauritius (Avi is a photo pro too and you will get nice shots from every visited location :) ).
