Overview

Experience an 8-hour day trip into the remote wilderness of Doubtful Sound, the heart of Fiordland National Park, while nature guides answer questions and point out landmarks. This fiord is home to bottlenose dolphins and fur seals - both are often seen. In season, you may even catch a glimpse of the rare Fiordland crested penguins. Explore Doubtful Sound's vast waterways on board a luxurious vessel.. A highlight is experiencing the unique 'Sound of Silence', where you hear only birdsong while floating on the fiord with the engines turned off.

If you wish to pre-order a picnic lunch, please contact the supplier directly after you have made your booking.

Please be sure you arrive 20 minute before departure to check in.

Superb day from start to finish. Well organised. Safety rules clearly explained. Good stops on Wilmot Pass route for photos. We took the early trip leaving at 7:30 & it wasn’t full, nice ammount of people. Saw dolphins and penguins but too much swell at sea to go to the seal colony.

Very cramp and chaotic. As we were the last few to board the buses/ships, we could not sit together as a family throughout the 7hr journey. There were no empty seats.

A wonderful way to experience Doubtful Sound. 45 Minutes to get across the lake, then a fun bus ride over the mountain to the boat. What made it special, on the day we did the tour, was that it had rained the night before and into the morning. That mean hundreds of waterfalls along the sound (actually a fjord). The boat cruises slowly and you get plenty of time to take in the views. Best of all, on the return trip, the captain goes up a side channel and stops in front of a wonderful waterfall. With engines off and people requested to be silent, and only 20-30 feet from shore, the quietness was surreal! A wonderful experience. We did not do a boat trip into Milford Sound (fjord) so we cannot compare. But we can highly recommend Doubtful Sound!
