The experience has been à disaster ! The visite of the Vatican Gardens has been cancelled the day before when we were allready in Roma ! Cost of flight and hotel engaged for nothing as this visit was the major fact of our programme. Local organiser was mostly unpleasant. Just hope we shall get refunded.

The Vatican museums check in area is so busy, chaotic and noisy that we got off to a poor start. The gardens are quite interesting but the bossy guide kept on at us (only a very small group) to keep together, wear your (uncomfortable) earpiece at all times (even though it was perfect easy to hear her) warning we’d be forcibly removed if we strayed an inch from her side. Then once that was over we were subjected to a long, dull lecture on what we would see in the sistene chapel, all carried out in the very noisy main area. It was extremely hot and she noticed me fidgeting and rudely said if we weren’t interested we could go to the chapel on our own (surely she could have said this at the start) and vaguely waved us in the direction to go. In the end we didn’t bother as the crowds were enormous and heat oppressive. I realise this is not the fault of the tour but perhaps they could limit numbers a little.

I booked this tour 3 days before the visit, and when I came, I was told that there has been a mistake, and I cannot get the garden tour, because such a tour must be booked at least 2 weeks ahead. So they suggested me to take skip the line to St. Peter's church instead.

Booked tour for 9am. Tour operator told us due to high demand tour start was 8am and to meet us at their office for 7:35am to collect tickets. This was fair enough so we turned up as they had stated. Their office was closed on our arrival and no one answering the phone. Eventually someone turned up just shortly after 8, at which time we received the tickets. Got to the location and we were told we had missed the tour so had no choice but to do a self-guided tour (less than half the price of the tickets that we had paid for). This was all because the tour operator was not open at the time they had told us to meet them. The Vatican was a fantastic experience, but disappointed we did not receive the experience we paid for because of poor management by the tour operator. Would recommend the experience, but do it with another more professional tour operator.

Beautiful view of st Peters basilicas dome with a smart guide who showed us the beautiful gardens and the history behind them. The weather was hot but the trees helped give cooling shade. Landscape was beautiful and the trees were something special
