Overview

Start your day at the Vatican with a lavish buffet breakfast in the Pinecone Courtyard, followed by a small-group tour (limited to 16) of the Vatican Museums before they open to the general public. See highlights such as Raphael’s Rooms and the Sistine Chapel before heading inside St Peter’s Basilica though a reserved entranceway to beat any crowds. Alternatively, select the Vatican Gardens breakfast option, limited to 25 people, which, in addition to the Museums tour, includes a coach tour of Vatican City and the gardens, typically closed to the public. No matter which option you choose, you'll see the Vatican's incredible artwork with personalized attention from a guide.

Highlights

  • Breakfast included
  • Exclusive to Viator
  • Informative, friendly and professional guide
  • Likely to Sell Out
  • Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience
  • Skip the line
  • Small-group tour

Your tour starts in the morning at the Vatican Museums, where you'll meet your guide before the complex opens to the general public. Follow your guide to either the Pinecone Courtyard or the Vatican cafeteria (depending on the tour option chosen at the time of booking) to begin your experience with a buffet of pastries, coffee and other items. After breakfast, head with your guide on your VIP tour of the Vatican’s many famed sights, from the Gallery of Tapestries to the Renaissance art of Raphael’s Rooms to the Sistine Chapel.
Your tour finishes with skip-the-line access to St Peter’s Basilica through a reserved doorway. Learn about the artwork like Bernini’s Baldacchino canopy and Michelangelo’s Pieta sculpture before saying goodbye to your guide when your tour ends (you may continue to stay at St Peter’s Basilica, if you wish).
See the Itinerary for more information about the two tour options.

Tour with Pinecone Courtyard breakfast:
Take a seat for your outdoor buffet breakfast, which includes Italian and American items such as pastries, meats, cheese, eggs and pancakes made right in front of you. Sip coffee and fresh orange juice while you enjoy the tranquil setting of a quiet Vatican, before the crowds arrive.

After eating, follow your guide into the Vatican Museums complex, which is still closed to the general public at this point (there will probably be a few other pre-booked tour groups inside with you). In your small group limited to 16 people, let your guide show you the highlights of this vast landmark during your 2.5-hour tour. Visit the Gallery of Maps, Gallery of Tapestries and Raphael’s Rooms before making your way to the Sistine Chapel, the pope’s private place of worship where you can gaze in awe at Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam and The Last Judgment frescoes.

Finish up inside St Peter’s Basilica, where you’ll hear about the history of the artwork here before your tour ends.

Tour with breakfast and Vatican Gardens:
Enjoy a hearty American breakfast buffet in the Vatican cafeteria, where you can fill up on croissants, muffins, pancakes, fruit, cereal, cookies and made-to-order eggs, accompanied by espresso, American-style coffee and fresh juice.

After breakfast, hop on an open-air coach for a 45-minute tour through the Vatican City State, listening to historical stories and interesting facts from your guide during the ride. Pass by sights very rarely seen by members of the public, such as the Vatican railway station, the Great Jubilee bell, the meditation gardens used by popes since the 1200s and the pope’s private heliport. The Vatican Gardens are only accessible on select guided tours, so this is a unique way to see more of Vatican City than the typical visitor.

When the coach tour ends, your experience continues back at the Vatican Museums, where you’ll follow your historian guide through the galleries’ many artistic masterpieces, finishing up at St Peter’s Basilica (same Vatican Museums tour as described above).

Monica was our guide and she was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We only had about 18 people in our group and Monica did a great job of keeping us all together and explaining things. The first stop was breakfast which was pretty good. There were lots of pastries and pancakes, but we chose eggs, meat, fruit and yogurt. We don't normally eat as many carbs as we have been here in Italy. While we were waiting in lines to enter the different sections, Monica was very good about telling us interesting facts to keep us engaged. We went quickly through the Vatican Museums where you could easily spend an entire day and not see it all. Then Monica explained that the reason we went so quickly was because Vladimir Putin was in town and sections could be closed at any moment and she wanted to make sure we saw it all. She was very good at adjusting her plans to accommodate this. Before entering the Sistine Chapel, she explained what to look for because she is not allowed to talk in the headsets while in there. Finally, at St. Peter's Basilica, she took us through, showing us famous works of art and important aspects of the basilica. As she finished our tour, she told us other things we might want to experience before we leave.

Excellent. Worth the extra cost to get in before the hordes. Our guide, Stefania , was both knowledgeable and awesome.

Our tour guide provided a passionate and educational overview of Vatican City. I definitely learnied things. Please bring water. The tour is hours and you'll need some water along the way. I think La Vacanza Travel could improve this tour by providing guests with water and fans before leaving. If going in the summer be prepared for crowds. Also please be mindful that you cannot take pictures in the Sistine Chapel.

This is a great tour if you wanted to access the Vatican and Sistine Chapel before the rush. It is still quite busy with other tour groups but if you see how busy it can otherwise get then you're paying for the ease of it all. From a pricing point of view it's a bit on the expensive side I thought because the breakfast was your standard continental buffet and whilst it sounds like you're with exclusive tour groups, it is still opened to general public if you line up early enough.
