Hop into the saddle and experience the best of New Zealand’s great outdoors on this 1 hour horse trekking adventure from Rotorua. Choose the start time to suit your schedule, then follow a guide on horseback into the countryside around Mt. Ngongotaha. Explore green paddocks and working farmland, and enjoy fine views over Lake Rotorua in the distance. This tour includes all safety gear plus wet weather gear if raining.

What Can You Expect?

Itinerary

This is a guided walking horse trek. Prior instructions are given before departing the paddock arena. You will be allocated a riding hat and a suitable horse to match your ability. Riders must be 12 years old minimum.

Starting on the lower farm you follow our guide and wind your way up to our lookout overlooking Lake Rotorua which you will see in our photos. The whole experience takes part on the lower part of Mount Ngongotaha. There is some uneven terrain during the trek, however, no previous experience is required. Helmets are provided for safety reasons.

It was the most relaxing horseback riding experience I’ve ever had. The beautiful view of the lake, fun conversation with the guide, and cheeky horses were just what I needed to feel connected to the local nature and people. Highly recommend!

This place was honestly pretty magical. My partner and I went here while visiting Rotorua, and I couldn’t recommend it more highly. I’ve got some experience with horses, but my partner doesn’t, and the team here helped her feel comfortable and get going on her horse. The horses were well-trained and friendly, very easy to ride and knew the trails well. We did the hour ride and really enjoyed it, you go along some trails, through the fields with cows and sheep then up to the top of the hill for a beautiful view with some lovely photo opportunities. Shout out to Nicola, our guide. She was super experienced with horses and made it really easy for us, had a good chat while we were riding and she taught me all about horses.

Hi, That was one of the worst experience i have ever had in my life from Adventure playground and Trip Advisors team as well, I did a booking of horse tracking for 3rd of March 2024 but unfortunately due to extreme wether provider called me and said please cancel your booking because you won’t be able to do the tracking. Then I cancelled my booking and i asked operator about my refund because i was almost reached there, he suggested me to cancel the booking and said you will get the refund because we are the one calling you to cancel it. And i did the same, I haven’t received any notification about refund and i have received any refund and i emailed customer service team of trip advisor, no body is replying to my email. I have lost almost $94 USD just for no reason. I will never choose trip advisor for booking next and will not suggest to anyone to use trip advisors. Thanks

We had an incredible experience. My husband had never rode a horse before. The horses were well trained and the guides were very helpful. And the view at the top of the hill is spectacular!

Amazing trek! Guided by Nicola and another incredible guide I didn't get the name of. I've always been a bit tentative of riding horses but this lot was so calm and lovely. Rode Joe, who basically led himself with very little input needed from me. Followed the line very patiently. Going downhill still a bit spooky, feels like you're sliding forward but horses go nice and slow. Would highly recommend to nervous riders or anyone really 😊. Amazing views on the one hour trek.
