Today Avacha Bay is able to accommodate the entire world fleet. The area of the Avachinskaya Bay exceeds 200 square kilometers, it cuts into the inland land by 24 kilometers. The Russians opened the Avachinskaya Bay in 1703, several months before the founding of St. Petersburg.

Gateway to the bay - two capes, Bezymyanny and Mayachny. During a storm in the ocean, the bay serves as a haven for ships that come here from all over the Avacha Bay to wait out bad weather.
