Stop At: Ancient City of Ephesus, Selcuk 35920 Turkiye

When your cruise ship docks in Kusadasi, join up with your private guide at the port and board an air-conditioned minivan. Then, hear about Turkey’s fascinating ancient history from your guide on route to your first stop.

After roughly one hour, arrive at Miletus, one of the most important of ancient Greco-Roman cities. Set on the mouth of the River Meander, it boasted four coastal harbors and only declined in the 6th century AD when the river silted up. See its Delphinium temple, bathhouses and other monuments, including the impressive Theater of Miletus, where 25,000 spectators once gathered to watch gladiatoral contests.

Continue to Didyma to admire its magnificent Temple of Apollo. Regarded as second only to Delphi, this massive Greek-era temple was the seat of a revered oracle. Stroll around the remaining columns and behold the carved head of Medusa that dominates the entrance as your guide helps you visualize the beauty of the temple at its height.

After a break for lunch (own expense), visit Ephesus, probably Turkey’s most spectacular archeological site. Head inside this Greco-Roman city via its Magnesia Gate and on your 2.5-hour tour, hear how it flourished as the Roman Empire's capital in Asia Minor. Walk the marble-paved streets past shops, houses and baths, and see the Odeon, Fountain of Trajan and Temple of Hadrian. Gaze at the stunning Library of Celsus and the 24,000-seater Great Theatre, where St Paul once preached.

Having explored Ephesus, return to Kusadasi cruise port, where your tour concludes.

Places visited were wonderful, but our guide lacked passion and was clearly mailing it in for a paycheck. He seemed more interested in earning his commission at the multiple stops we made during the day ... we realize it's customary to be encouraged to discover regional wares and shop at unique vendors to support the local economy, but this guide was shameful and beyond any measure of reasonable.

We had an excellent day. As soon as we walked out to the terminal our guide Jun was waiting for us and took us to our mini van. I was able to sit in the front and get some great photos. Our first stop was Miletus and Jun took us around the site, which was very interesting. Next we saw Apollo's Temple at Didyma. Once again Jun walked around with us giving us lots of interesting information and there were still some very good portraits and carvings visible. Then Jun and our driver took us for a typical Turkish lunch, which was outstanding I recommend following their advice - much better than MacDonalds! After lunch we went to Ephesus and Jun took us around she was excellent didn't rush us at all, she explained every area as we came to it and took some photos for us. It is an extremely impressive site and really gives you the feeling of being in a Roman city. The library is absolutely amazing! On the way back to the port we stopped at a carpet weaving school where the Turkish government are trying to encourage traditional crafts we were shown how they weave the carpets and how silk is spun. We actually spent 9 hours not 7 so it was an amazing day and great value for money. Jun is an outstanding guide who speaks impeccable English and goes out of her way to make sure that you get the best knowledge about every site.

Excellent tour of Ephesus. Spent the entire time in Ephesus rather than spending the time driving to Miletus and Didyma.Tour Guide had an excellent understanding of the historical events that were of interest.

I can't say enough good nor give our tour guide, pronounced Char sp? of Fez Travel, high enough praise for the job he did! It was excellent! It was great to get away from the crowds at Ephesus early in the morning and see Didyma and Miletus and THEN hit the Ephesian ruins, which were magnificent! We were blown away in Didyma when walking through the quiet, somewhat run-down town suddenly to come upon this massive ruin of Apollo's Temple! Wow!! When we first arrived there were no other tourists even there! Amazing structure! Thank you for the great tour!!!

Serdar our guide was waiting for us when we got off the ship. With just him and the driver we were able to see everything we had wanted to see as this was our second trip to Ephesus. We learned so much that day.. The temple at Didyma was a awesome sight and had a great lunch there as well. The theater at Miletus topped of the day as we could not have enjoyed the sights more. Highly recommend this shore excursion.
