Overview

Brunello di Montalcino, a collector’s favorite, is internationally recognized as one of the best Italian red wines. On this full-day guided tour from Siena, discover the cellars where these incredible wines age, meet the local producers, and learn about the passion that goes into making this wine. Enjoy a traditional Tuscan lunch at a winery and spend time relaxing at your leisure in the village of Montalcino before exploring the mystical abbey of Sant'Antimo. Visit a total of three wineries in the region, tasting unique creations at each one.

Numbers are limited to eight people on this small-group tour, ensuring you'll receive personalized attention from your guide.

Meet your guide in front of the church of San Domenico in Siena at 9:30am and travel south to the famous wine hill of Montalcino. Enjoy a first stop at a small winery, walk along the rows of vines, explore the cellars and learn about the different barrels that can be used to make this 5-year old, prestigious wine. Enjoy an introductory tasting of the famous Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino wine and contemplate its complexities and legendary aging potential. Visit the hill town of Montalcino, the fortress where the brave soldiers of the Republic of Siena made their last stand against Florence and the town's squares and streets. Be welcomed into a family-run winery, meet its owners, winemakers or workers and take a visit around the farm before sitting down to enjoy a traditional Tuscan meal accompanied by the farm's delicious wines.
Enjoy a brief visit to the mystical Abbey of Sant'Antimo, a church that was once part of a large Benedictine monastery and enjoy its peace and tranquility.

We had an outstanding day tasting Brunello di Montalcino! Mattia was the absolute best guide; he is so knowledgeable not only about wine but also about history. You will have a blast on this tour; highly, highly recommend as it was one of our favorite days of our trip!

This was one of the most amazing trips to Siena's wine countryside - all wineries had the most gracious hosts/hostesses, shared some of the best wine food along with the best wines of the regions. The guides were most wonderful.

This was by far one of the best tours we took in Italy. IF you are lucky enough to have Enrico(Elio?) as your guide, you will be regaled with tales and history of the area. He taught us about the unique qualities of the Brunello grape, the very specific growing methods and processes used on the vineyards (organic). The three vineyards shared their reasons for barrel choices and we were treated to gorgeous views of the vineyards and olive groves overlooking the hillsides. We enjoyed the various ‘seasons’ of the wine…some very young and others more mature, and we could, of course purchase our favorites. We had a lovely lunch at one of the vineyards, hosted by it’s rather demonstrative owner. The actual travel through the region was so picturesque, and we stopped at a medieval Abby to enjoy the gardens and revel in the mystique of its ancient history. Montalcino was a quiet, quaint town nestled in the hills and we roamed the narrow cobblestone streets and climbed the entrance to an ancient fortress, enjoying the rolling scene below. What I’ve learned on these tours is that your guide is the important factor—and ours was AMAZING. His family has a small vineyard in the Chianti region and he shared so many interesting facts about the entire process, peppered with stories of his family and personal life. For a short while, we were all an Italian family, eating and drinking our way through the day.

Fun trip! Views were amazing and Elio was a funny and informative tour guide. Got to learn a lot about how the different wines are made and of course, the wine was very good!

Fantastic guide! Had been a winemaker so knew all kinds of helpful and interesting information. Went to 3 wineries- each different. Had a fantastic lunch at 2nd one. Got to see an old Abbey, and time for walking around charming city of Montepulciano.
