Our guide picked us up from the hotel, just a short walk from the Hermitage. We skipped the long lines waiting to get in and what a treat was in store for us. Her knowledge was excellent and she explained every room we went through regaling us with stories and tales of those that went before. When we reached the art we were blown away. This must be one of the most extensive collections in the world and our guide again expertly took us through the galleries pointing out the many highlights. Even when I requested we look at specific paintings these were easily found as she seemed to know where every painting was. After a delightful lunch with our guide we continued on and because we wanted to stay in the Hermitage our guide kept with us to show every more enchanting works. We ran over time, but she did take us to the General Staff Building to take in the Impressionist works. Cannot rate our guide highly enough.if you know about the Impressionist it is easy to self guide around this part of the museum, but without the guide in the main building you miss so much so it is essential.
