My favorite trek in Norway, maybe the harder especially by rain (all our way to going there), very slippy but nice accommodation to help you for going there but it’s expensive, Absolutely stunning !
Cannot recommend this tour for the following reasons. - One guest was not picked up at all and forgotten at her hotel, despite waiting at the front of her hotel at the bus stop. The company called our guide while the mini-bus was already on the motorway and had to turn back. This cost the group one hour. It seems the guide had no list of guests/names per location. - The guide played wih the SatNav a lot, telling us he didn't want to get lost and didn't know the way very well. Also mentioned that our tour was only his 5th. - After starting the hike trail, the guide had to return to the car because he'd forgotten the first-aid kit. - No information on local history/flora/fauna etc during the whole day - Seven of the eight members of the group completed the hike entirely alone because the guide accompanied one member of the group who took 2 hours longer to complete. This is broadly fine and can happen during every tour, but it is just not worth the money for the other 7 guests. - The end of our hike was followed by a 2 hour wait in the cold car, as the cafe was closed and we needed to wait on our guide and 8th guest to return. We arrived back in Stavanger at 10:30pm. - During the 3-hour drive home, the guide asked the group if they had Facebook or Instagram, which everyone avoided answering. He then asked one guest if she'd like to go hiking again with him some time (privately). Later, when parked directly outside her AirBnB, he asked her the same question again. I've paid for several guided hikes before and the high price often provides some local knowledge, hiking reassurance, and importantly, convenience. I cannot recommend this tour because it is so expensive and, while I did end up loving the day, everything I enjoyed was unrelated to the tour, e.g the views, hike, chats with locals. When I ask myself what the tour contributed, I can say I paid approx. €130 for an overpriced and unreliable taxi service and nothing more. Others on the tour had been messed around by the company on previous days, being told that tours were spontaneously rescheduled, but not receiving replacement tickets/schedules, and then not receiving answers to any correspondence. If you have a way to get to Kjerag by yourself, do that instead. The trail itself is very busy and well-marked so you won't get lost. Other hikers on the trail are helpful, chatty and friendly. You should DEFINITELY bring gloves because you will need to use the chains a lot. This is not comminicated well by the company and it was then necessary for half of our party to rent gloves before climbing (€10 per pair). As a hike, the views are stunning and I would absolutely do it again (independently).
The trip was well organised from start to finish. After a punctual pick up from the hotel, we took the most beautiful, scenic drive to the start of the hike. The hike itself was amazing, harder than I thought it would be at times, but if you’re used to hiking and don’t mind clambering over a few rocks every now and then, then you’ll be absolutely fine!! The views in every direction were incredible and obviously, standing on the boulder was the best experience!!! I would 100% do this again!!!
The hike didn’t start good. The company cancelled our hike the evening before. Rebooked for the day after. 40min into the drive the guide realised he forgotten someone and we had to get back for them. This made our drive 4h instead 2.5h. He didn’t even apologise. In our group there was 65year old lady who really struggled but was persistent to finish the walk and the guide stayed with her the whole time and helped her get to the top. Which meant I done the whole hike without the guide. He was really good with her. The hike itself I didn’t find too difficult but I am frequent hiker. Good grip shoes and gloves are a MUST! the chains get painful on your hands and the surfaces get very slippery when wet. Trail marked good so easly done without the guide.
Could have done this hike without the guide. The guide was non communicative, didn’t introduce himself, didn’t ask any questions of the hikers and no introduction to the hike or any details of the hike. He basically let the hikers hike ahead and we didn’t see him till close to the top. He did help take pictures on the rock but that was about it. Basically we got a driver and a photographer, not a guide. Not worth the price of the tour.
