Overview

Experience a full-day guided walk on one of New Zealand's premier Great Walks - the Routeburn track, including Key Summit.  Tour departs from Te Anau, with a drive along the Milford Road to the track.  Ascend through lush forest and into a unique alpine herb field offering panoramic views, this walk offers an incredible day out in the heart of New Zealand’s Southern Alps.

Itinerary

Your trip departs from Te Anau and takes around 1.5 hours travelling in a vehicle to Fiordland’s mountain "divide" - between east and west. The walk begins at the Divide Shelter with a steady climb on a well maintained track. Gaining an elevation of 400 meters, the ascent takes approximately 2 hours at a leisurely pace. On a fine day lunch is had on Key Summit, and in unfavorable conditions in a nearby shelter. After lunch you will descend back to the Divide Shelter before returning to Te Anau. You will spend approximately 4 to 6 hours walking based on your ability but you should be prepared for at least 4 hours walking at a leisurely pace with some hill climbing. This walk is rated 'easy' but some fitness is required for the hill climb.

Had a very wet yet wonderful hike with Andreas and Jane as guides. The Heavens opened and the views hid. Still great fun as the third day of one day hikes we did with the company. Well prepared, knowledgeable guides and great company. The group of people we walked with were just amazing. The drive along the valley gave us mountain to mountain waterfalls. Lunches were great. Would do the whole lot again.

Learned that the great walks/holes are well established routes with paths that are maintained. Geoff and Jake were wonderful and knowledgeable guides; funny and very personable as well. Hike up to the summit is a manageable walk and our group of 12 all walked at our own comfortable pace. Lunch was good and plentiful; the cup of hot tea at the top was perfect. Scenery along the way and at the top is incredible. Used our walking poles - a few steep areas with loose stones. On time and true to description. Loved it!

We had a great time during our guided walk to Lake Marian the one day and to Key Summit the other day. It was so much fun and the hikes were absolutely amazing. We really had two wonderful days 🤩

Our guide John and Jane were so kind and lovely. We stopped at several spots on the way to the Routeburn track and their explanation was very informative and helpful. As a solo traveler, I felt safer with the group on the track and they gave us a much nicer time of trail walk with all the care and talks. At the key summit, they served us some nice tea which warmed us up. Until the end of the trip, it was so much enjoyable and fun. I’ll recommend this to anyone who’s planning the trekking at Te Anau!

The guides were great and the hike is beautiful. This is a fabulous hike if you can't do the whole Routeburn tramp.
