Overview

Can you imagine being at the Market Place in the centre of Tromso, and after only 30 minutes suddenly realizing that you are far away from the city surrounded only by nature and fjords? In our approach to beautiful Hella, we will navigate along the Ry tidal current. This current attracts fish, and fish attract birds, so we will see and hear lots of nature around us while docking. We will then walk five minutes to a small boathouse where we will serve coffee/tea and muffins while enjoying beautiful views of fjords, mountains and birds. From here, you will observe the strength of the current we just navigated. Finally, we will start our short hike back to the RIB boat and our exciting navigation back to Tromso! Please not that this is NOT sea rafting.

    This is a terrific way to see Tromso and the beautiful area surrounding the city. The trip was very easy to book through La Vacanza Travel and the meeting spot was easy to find. Francisco was our guide and he met us right on time and thoroughly explained everything before we headed over to get dressed for the trip. The company provides warm suits and water proof boots for every guest. It was a short walk to the pier from the office and Francisco directed each passenger to their seat based on size so couples won't necessarily be seated together. We headed out from the dock and had a great adventure. Our trip took us around the large island in the harbor (I forgot the name) to see what wildlife and birds we could see from shore. Francisco knows his animals so we learned a lot about what we were seeing. The trip was about three hours from start to finish, but you will not be on the boat the entire time as there is a stop on a small pier where you can get off the boat, take off the suit if you wish, and enjoy a snack and hot beverage. We had glorious weather so the pictures were spectacular. A couple of planning thoughts - the port was busy when we were out so other boats were coming and going. You will very likely get wet and the only place to stow your belongings is on the floor at your feet. Don't bring what you don't need; consider leaving wallets, purses, backpacks etc on your cruise ship or in your hotel room. The ride can also get bumpy so it's a good idea to have your phone on a lanyard so you don't drop it overboard. You can also put small items like a phone inside the suit to keep them dry when not in use. The ride was exhilarating. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to see Tromso from a different and fun perspective.

    This was an excellent trip and I would recommend it to anyone. We saw puffin close up, harbour porpoises and heron and heard a great deal about the sea eagle. We also had a lovely break in the sunshine by the little jetty. Totally on time too.

    Our guide had great info about the area. The boat ride was fun and we enjoyed the hot coffee and tea on the island. Beautiful scenery.
