Curepipe lies at a higher elevation, often referred to as the "Central Plateau". The town's name, Curepipe, is said to be originated from the French curer sa pipe, which translates to "cleaning the pipe".
Curepipe, though inland from the main coastal tourist areas of Mauritius, is nonetheless a tourist destination.
You can visit Trou aux Cerfs, a dorman volcano.
The manor house of the Domaine des Aubineaux was built in 1872 in a classic colonial style and now transformed into a museum.
Curepipe Botanic Gardens (or SSR Botanical Garden of Curepipe) ,the second largest botanical garden in Mauritius.

If you are wondering what’s the best place to learn about Mauritian history and culture, it has to be Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius. It is the smallest of the island’s 9 districts and certainly the warmest town.
The places that you can visit are La Place d’Armes, an historic place but also very busy because the road that runs through it, connects the south and north of the city center.
The Caudan – Port Louis Waterfront, a home to a very special museum, the famous Blue Penny Museum.
The central market, the hottest and liveliest place in Port Louis. The museum of Aapravasi Ghat listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006, this place was used between the nineteenth and twentieth century to accommodate indigenous migrant workers.

Suggestion: Visit the South part.
Although relatively undeveloped compared to the other regions of the island, the Southern part of Mauritius is perhaps one of the most interesting for visiting. The South is ideal for the green landscapes and for those who want to see the wilder side of Mauritius.

Touristy, but less commercial than the north, the East coast will bring you around traditional and slow-paced villages like Grand Rivière Sud-Est & Bois des Amourettes.
It showcases the Mauritian kind of life that opens way to spirituality, fishermen in pirogues and washerwomen in the river washing even thoughts.

In Mauritius, when we speak of “the north”, Grand Bay is the first thing that comes to mind. Grand Bay, through sustained development, has become the premier tourist destination of Mauritius.
The village has restaurants and lively bars. Vendors at the Grand Baie Bazaar sell handicrafts.

The city of Mahébourg invites visitors for a walk in its beautiful cobble-stone waterfront, where local fishermen spend their days on their wooden pirogues. The village has witnessed the only Napoleonic naval victory over the English in 1810.
