Overview

Start this private food adventure with a convenient pick up from your Ubud hotel. Then head to your host Dewa and Jero's traditional home in Ubud where you will enjoy an incredible Balinese homecooked meal. Your Balinese feast may include dishes such as pepes ikan (grilled tuna in banana leaves), a delicate and deeply satisfying dish, bumbu kuning (chicken in a fresh turmeric and coconut milk sauce), bregedel (corn fritters), and jukut urab (seasonal vegetables with grated coconut and fried shallots).

This is a unique opportunity to get an inside glimpse at Balinese life in a special private home dining experience in a local home.

Please note, in keeping with their Balinese family tradition and sense of spirituality, your hosts will not share the meal with you at the dining table. Their preferred approach is to eat on one's own and focus on personal meditation to achieve a positive state of mind.

Start this private food adventure with a convenient pick up from your Ubud hotel at 9am. If you are not staying in Ubud, make your own way and meet your host at a designated resort near his house. Visit a traditional Balinese walled family compound nestled in a village in the terraced foothills just north of Ubud. Consisting of several open pavilions around a central courtyard, the village is home to your hosts and their extended family.

Near your host's home, discover exotic Balinese fruits, herbs and spices such as galangal, cloves, cacao and nutmeg and learn about their medicinal properties. Then, walk 10 minutes to your host's home for a tour of the family compound before joining his wife Jero to cook authentic, home-cooked Balinese dishes using a traditional wood-fired oven. Learn to cook with Jero dishes such as pepes Ikan (grilled tuna in banana leaves), bumbu kuning (chicken in a fresh turmeric and coconut milk sauce), and bregedel (hand-ground corn fritters). Enjoy the delicious meal you helped prepare while experiencing the life of a local family in the lush green of their compound walls. Leave with family recipes, new friends, and lifelong memories.

Please note that you will be hosted by Dewa or an equally wonderful family member who will host you along with Dewa's wife Jero. This is not a professional cooking class, rather this experience is a visit to an authentic, local home to meet a local family who are expert cooks and share Balinese culture and cuisine together.

What an amazing experience! When you visit Bali, you see beautiful traditional houses with stunning gardens and family temples, which makes you wonder what each of them stands for. We enjoyed all the conversations with Putu, an amazing host, learned everything we were curious about. After the garden tour, where they grow everything from rice, avocado, mango, papaya, snake fruits, coconut, cacao, passion fruits, peanut, gingers, chickens, ducks, we started the cooking of 5 course meal, all using the ingredients from the garden. All the foods and the experience was amazing! Worth all the penny and highly recommend for anybody who love culture and cooking.

This was truly fantastic and something I would highly recommend. Puto was a brilliant teacher and we learned lots about traditional Balinese cooking - but more authentic recipes than what you get in mainstream restaurants. Her and her husband picked us up at our hotel and then we had a tour of their traditional home and garden. We then cooked five amazing dishes. Puto was so encouraging and made us feel so welcome. A great experience and food we will cook again at home. Fantastic!!

Amazing experience with Putu, sue was sincere, helpful, and patient with us. The traditional home and explanation was wonderful and we immediately felt welcomed into her home. We really enjoyed the true farm to table food and Putu helped educate us on more than just the food which we loved. We picked food fresh from her home garden, cooked, and ate the amazing food! We all really enjoyed it and believe it has been the best things we've experienced since being in Bali. Book with Putu!

We have booked a cooking Class with Putu and we really enjoyed it. Putu is very friendly and kind. She has showed us around her House and Garden and explained everything to us. In their garden they plant everything on their own which is nice to see. We then started our cooking Class and prepared 5 meals with fresh ingrediants. It was a nice experience which I Really recommend.

We had an amazing time doing this experience. Putu and her family were so kind and welcoming. It was fantastic getting to see inside a traditional Balinese home and learn about their culture as well as the cooking. My husband is not a cook and he absolutely loved it as well! The food was delish, instructions were clear and time absolutely flew by. At the end we had a delicious feast to eat. Would 100% recommend spending the money to have this experience.
