Overview

A rowing boat ride at dawn along the Ganges is a quintessential Varanasi experience. The early-morning light is particularly inspiring, and all the color and clamour of pilgrims bathing and performing puja unfolds before you. An hour-long trip south from Dashashwamedh Ghat to Harishchandra Ghat and to Manikarnika Ghat and back is popular and be prepared to see a burning corpse at Harishchandra and Manikarnika Ghat

The old buildings, ashrams and places along the river side tend to glow when the sun light hits them. The ancient name of the city “Kashi” signifies the same. People talking bath, performing rituals, worshiping to the Sun, washing clothes… it all happens

Stop At: Experience Varanasi - Private Guided Tours, Varanasi 221005 India

Take a morning boat ride on the river Ganges at sunrise, when its banks are alive with the multitude of worshipers who come to immerse themselves honoring life’s milestones as they face the rising run. This worship form is better known as “Surya Namaskar” which translates into paying homage to the sun god. And it is not through the formal acts of ritual, but through the most ordinary gestures of riverside and marketplace that the charged, heightened drama of life in Varanasi unfolds.

What a wonderful find and what a hidden Gem...the best tour guides in Varanasi.... highly recommend you call and bespoke planning at a different level. Kunal was so kind, helpful and went beyond everything including getting up at 5 am and getting us a box of sweets because it was our anniversary...they took us around and gave us the best local experience in terms of wak, boat ride and a gastronomic morning walk...the darshan to Kasi Viswanath temple was also arranged seemlesly...

This morning boat tour is not to be missed. It was fantastic. Vinod our guide came to our hotel, the Rose Heritage, to fetch us before dawn. We stopped for chai on the way to the boat, and then for more than 3 hours, he showed us the Ganges in all its glory, and explained the fascinating stories of the ghats, the pilgrims who come here to bathe and to die. We wanted to see the burning ghats and hear more stories, so Vinod arranged for us to speak with one of the overseer, and it was informative and touching to learn the story of the cremation ritual. I expected it to be difficult to see these images, but it was not. I expected it to be tough to take in the scents and sounds. It was not. With ultimate respect and authority, Vinod explained the story of Hindu's holiest city. Jitendra, our boat man, was wonderful, and Mr. Kunal who set up the whole experience, including our sunset walking tour the previous evening with Vinod, was also excellent. The sunset walk with the Hindu fire ceremony is also not to be missed. Leave yourself enough time here to do these sacred rituals. I will return to Varanasi and I will book more curated tours with Experience Varanasi.

I woke up 4am still wondering if I would be able to catch a boat. Checked my phone and saw Kunal’s message. In 1 hour, I was meeting Kunal for the tour start, surprisingly a Solo/Private tour with a well rounded person - able to navigate across different themes and aubjects. That’s when the learning process begun, by hearing tales and stories about hinduism, how the city works, rituals and daily ordinary habits. This feeling was carried out through the entire boat journey, but then mixed with moments of contemplation and connection... til the last piece when we had local food together. I lived a fantastic experience in this 3 hour tour. I will never forget. Namaste

We did morning boat tour and also evening boat tour with Kunal. It was very interesting experience and he has told us a lot about Varanasi and Hindu culture etc. which we didn't know anything about. Unfortunately we didn't see the sunrise but it was still nice to be on the boat watching people bathing and we fed the birds(a lot of them!) in the morning and watched burning ghat and evening ritual from the boat.We throughly enjoyed the both experiences, thank you Kunal!
