Overview

Visit one of the most beautiful palazzi of the Canal Grande – the rightfully named “house of gold”, or Ca d'Oro. The ancient patrician 15th century residence is home to the art collection Baron Giorgio Franchetti, which he donated to the Italian state. The palazzo is decorated in the Venetian Gothic style and has been lovingly restored and preserved though the ages, guaranteeing a fascinating architectural experience. Admire paintings of the Venetian school including the famous San Sebastiano by Andrea Mantegna, works of the Tuscan and the Flemish schools, plus wonderful bronze and Renaissance statues. There is also an interesting collection of ceramics recovered from the Venetian lagoon.

The outside is more stunning than the inside. Unfortunately when we arrived we were told that the 1st floor was closed for renovation and the ground floor and garden were closed until 14:00pm owing to the previous night's high water.

We were given passes for 9:30 am but the museum did not open until 10:00 am! Very disappointing. I want my money back

I am absolutely disgusted with this experience. I tried to cancel this reservation more than 24 hours in advance and could not. I dealt with folks from TripAdvisor and everybody sent me to company line. I don’t think it’s right that you can’t cancel well in advance. I could not even access my booking, when I went through TripAdvisor it said I had no bookings. We saw this museum on our own and paid admission which was a lot less.

Only got to view the first floor of the gallery. The gallery stated that due to technical problems access to the second floor was closed. Of course I booked the tickets 2 days ahead of time and they didn’t mention it online. People who walked in paid a lesser fee because of the problem. Unfortunately for what we got to see, I would rate Ca d’ Oro as more of a maybe see if you have time. Go to Academia instead.

Ca C'oro did not receive anything from Trip Advisor regarding our visit - we were not on their list and they did not receive payment. Fortunately the person at the reception allowed us free entry. I think he did this because it was the end of the day and no longer high season (we were there mid September). Wonderful juxtaposition of the historic site and collection with a special modern art exhibit Wonderful architecture I highly recommend the site. If you book this site with Trip Advisor be sure to do it several weeks in advance as there was a major technological glitch. Unsure if it was the sit or Trip Advisor's service that was inadequate. I would recommend confirming with the site by email that they have received your reservation.
