Doi Inthanon National Park
Known as “the roof of Thailand,” Doi Inthanon National Park is the highest point in the country at 2,565 meters above sea level. Covering 482 square kilometers, the national park contains the Chom Thong District, Sanpatong District, Mae Wang District, Mae Chaem District and the Toi Lor sub-district of Chiang Mai.
Established in 1972, the Doi Inthanon National Park is nature at its finest with its lush jungles, several waterfalls, majestic rivers and even two villages—Karen and Meo Hmong—where about 4,500 people live.
Being a protected sanctuary, Doi Inthanon has been home to more than 362 species of birds, most of which are unique only to Thailand. This makes the park a perfect spot for bird watching in the country.
Doi Inthanon has also long been a settlement for Northern Hilltribes where efforts have been made to preserve their unique villages and maintain their culture while allowing developments such as the Bhumibol Dam to help residents improve their way of life through electricity.
Doi Inthanon National Park also has several “chedis” on top of the mountain dedicated to the King and Queen and Their Royal Majesties.
